Hi I'm Orrin

I married a wonderful girl, thats the key, raised 9 children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Father of nine children, with a wonderful wife. We met at BYU when she came looking for one of my roommates. I had spent two years in New Zealand on a Mormom mission. My father was born in New Zealand and it was a thrill to go there to serve a mission.I was raised in a little town in the middle of Utah - Fillmore, Utah. The first state capital. Our little town (1800 population in 1958 and 2012) lived for the High School football season. I loved football and played on a state championship team. While in college my friend, Larry Linton, and I studied careers. Larry went on to get an MBA from Arizona State, and has had a very successful life. I went to work for United Airlines, with aspirations to reach senior management. I was encouraged In my first interview for placement in a accelerated Management Training. Unfortunatley (or fortuntunately) I wasn't selected. I inquired as to why I wasn't selected and was told "there are a few of them in our office today, go take a look at them". It was obvious, that regardless of an excellant resume, I was to short. You see I am 5'2" tall. I retired from United Airlines in 2003 after 37 years. I never worked for another company. With United we have lived in Salt Lake City, Denver and the San Francisco bay area where I now live.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are Mormons and being raised in Fillmore, Utah I was surrounded by Mormons. My paternal grandparents had joined the Mormom church while living in New Zealand in 1920. They immagrated to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1921. Grandmother died at the birth of their fifth child in December 1921. Grandfather was devastaded and preparing to take the children and return to New Zealand. In a scared moment, Grandmother spoke to Grandfather and asked that he not return as this is why she had given her life, to have her children raised in Zion . On my mothers side of the family I have learned that when going back about 4 generations, in seven of the eight lines, there membership in the Mormom church had began in 1830 at the time that Joseph Smith was the Prophet, and prior to the exedus to move west from Illinois. I believe that with deep and strong ancestors making hugh sacrifices I have been blessed with a religious "blood line". I have been very active in the Church all my life.

How I live my faith

I try to follow Jesus, however, it seems that I am just learning how to do that. Oneday is a couple of steps forward. The next day perhaps one or two back. I am blessed with the desire to want to follow Him. It brings great peace.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Orrin
HERE AND NOW....I am so greatful that although I may not succeed for the eternites, the Lord's plan provides the opportunity that in this life I may experience FAMILY...NOW. What a wonderful blessing. In FAMILY, I experience the "learning process", "growth in spirit and body", "nuturing," "freedom to lead, guide and be accountable. Learn and experience Love. Slip and fall, but given the promptings as to how to get back up again. Teach my children, as God teachs His children. Learn Faith, Trust.....as God has faith and trust in me. THANK YOU HEAVENLY FATHER FOR THIS WONDERFUL PLAN. God's realm is one of FAMILY. We are blessed with an apprenticeship training while we journey in this Life. We are given the tools and training is provided. We recieve progress reports, and being watched over. God wants us to have the blessings of family that He has. Family is broader than parents, siblings, spouse, and children. Not all of these experiences come to each, however, the virtues, growth, and challenges of all can be experienced by each of us. Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Orrin
As the Mormon missionaries answered my Grandfather's question, "do you teach and preach the same gospel that Christ did when he was upon the earth? Their answer was a humble but firm YES. It is very important to me to also be able to give the same reply. Therefore, when the great Prophet Abraham, was serving the Lord, it is written that he offered/paid his tithe to the High Priest Melchezidek. As all other facsets of the Lords Church has been restored, so has the law of tithe. I am grateful to be able to participate in this commandment. Show more Show less
