Hi I'm Martilyn

I'm a full time mom with an engineering degree and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a dairy farm. I milked cows, cleaned stalls, moved sprinkler pipe, drove tractors, and all the other joys that a dairy brings. I also grew a love for my horses and enjoyed trail rides in the mountains and 4-H shows during the summer. While growing up I couldn't wait to get away from all the chores, but now I am grateful for the experience and even miss the farm. It will always be a part of me. After high school I went away for college. I learned a lot about myself and grew a lot. I met my husband in our engineering classes my sophomore year. My husband is very focused and a very hard worker. I'm very grateful for his example. We continued school and I graduated with a Civil Engineering degree. Shortly after our family was started. I could hardly wait to be a mom. It is something that I had looked forward to. I've enjoyed having the opportunity to stay home and care for my children. It is definitely a challenge at times. Sometimes I don't understand how it can take me so long to do simple things around the house. They make us laugh plenty, and they are an amazing blessing in our lives. My husband graduated with a Masters in Electrical Engineering and we have just started our life after college. So far all I can say is, "I love it!" College life wasn't terrible or anything, but it was college. There will be things we will miss and I am grateful for the memories we've made.

Why I am a Mormon

It is hard to explain, but it hit me my first year at college what the purpose of this life is. It was something I knew. It was taught to me since I was a child. However, it never hit me how simple it is. The goal in this life is to become like Christ so that we can return and live with our Father in Heaven. I began to learn how to align my will with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's. I love my little family more than I can explain. My husband is the most patient man. He is a great example of Christ and helps me become a better person. I am so grateful of my knowledge that families can be together forever. I have a testimony of this gospel. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is really Christ's church restored today. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that through him the Power of God was restored by the laying on of hands. The Priesthood is real. I feel the power of God every time I receive a blessing from a worthy priesthood holder. I know Heavenly Father loves me. I am a daughter of God. I know he loves all of His children. He loves us so much that He sent His only begotten son, who suffered for all of my imperfections. I also know that through Christ's atonement I can become perfected.

How I live my faith

What being a Mormon means to me is trying to better myself all the time. I always find myself progressing the most when I am living the teachings of Christ. I also notice that when I regress are also the times when I am not putting the Lord first. I love serving in the church through callings. I am doing my best to be an example to those around me. I want to emulate Christ so that those around me want to become like Him too. I especially want this for my family.
