Hi I'm Devin

I dream. I dance. I live. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to play sports. Basketball, football, soccer, lacrosse, its all good. Getting together with friends and running myself ragged playing around is awesome. I love it when I play so hard that I can hardly walk when its all over. I love books. I don't really have time to read books now, but when I do have the time it is the best thing to do. I'm not so much in to science fiction or fantasy, but I do love most kinds of books. I even love reading poetry. That stuff is awesome. I love to write as well, but sometimes i am just lazy. Writing takes a lot of effort. Reading doesn't. If it is nice enough, I love being outside. Hiking camping or just laying around in the grass are pretty awesome things to do. On a sunny day I love cruising around on my bike, just meandering with no particular place to go.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, my family being members several generations back. Yet I was never very interested in making this faith the anchor that it has become in my life. As I grew up I always assumed that the church was true because my family believed in it so thoroughly. When I left home for college, I really left behind the church as well. I wasn't concerned about faith and religion. In fact I did most everything I could to distance myself from the gospel and the church. But as time wore on, there was definitely something missing in my life. I spent years trying to figure out where I fit in the grand scheme of this world and whatever happens after. I searched faith after faith, unearthing anything that resembled the resolute truth as to religion. I was drawn to some ideas but there was nothing that collectively took hold of me. So I started from the bottom. I built faith in a divine being. After I was sure of that I needed to know which God was going to be my God. After coming to know that it was God and His son, Jesus Christ that I would follow, I needed to know which denomination would lead me closest to Him. And I thought of the faith of my parents. So picked up the Book of Mormon. I struggled and I doubted about its truth. There was part of me that didn't want it to be true, because then my parents would have been right all along and I would have been fighting against the truth. But when I finally let go of my own wants and desires and simply needed to know, without reservations or preconceived notions whether or not the Book of Mormon is true. After reading and praying I came to know it was true, in an answer that filled me, an answer I know could only have come from Heavenly Father. I so I took that answer and ran with it. Now as I continue to understand more about the things that Heavenly Father wants me to do, and as I strive to look to Christ in all things, there is so much more joy in my life. Not just good feelings, but unshakeable happiness even in times that are difficult.

How I live my faith

Right now I am serving as a missionary in Las Vegas, Nevada. All day every day I stand as a representative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Savior, Jesus Christ, Himself. I spend my hours sharing the gospel with everyone I come in contact with. Whether meeting people at their house or talking to people I've never met before on the street. The change that I have experienced in my own life drives me to share the gospel. I want everyone to know what I know about Jesus Christ and to feel everything that I have felt in understanding the power of this gospel.

Are Mormons Christians?

Absolutely. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the vehicle through which we can apply the Atonement in our lives. Through the Atonement of Christ our sins and shortcomings are removed from us so that if we do all we can in this life, we can be perfected and eventually return to live with our Heavenly Father. We have the church so we can truly follow Christ, our perfect example. Show more Show less
