Hi I'm Tommy

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student in my third year studying nuclear engineering. My favorite things to do are play basketball and hang out with friends. I also like to camp and hike and mess around on my guitar.

Why I am a Mormon

From a young age, I knew that God was real and that He loved me. Even in the darkest moments of my childhood, I knew that things would work out because God was there. My membership in this church is a direct result of that knowledge. Having both friends and family who are not members of the LDS faith, it didn't take long for me to realize that there were many different religions and beliefs in the world. As a result, I had many opportunities to ask myself, "Why do I need to be a Mormon?" Knowing that a loving God would help me find answers to that question and the many others that accompanied it, I felt comfortable asking my questions to Him in prayer. Every time I asked a question, without fail, I experienced the promise from Christ recorded in John 15:26 that he would send the "Spirit of truth" to testify of Him. As a result I know that Christ is my Savior, and that there is "One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all..." (Ephesians 4:5-6). And I know that this is Christ's church, organized by Him so that everyone can know the gospel that He taught when He was on the earth, just as it was taught 2000 years ago.

How I live my faith

I serve in my ward's Elder's Quorum presidency. I help the Elder's Quorum president and the Bishop as they strive to help the ward come closer to Christ. I also attend the temple regularly and I try to help people throughout my day.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Jesus Christ is the only way that we can be cleansed of our sins so that we can live with God again. When a person is baptized like Christ was, he/she promises to follow Christ always. In return, God promises to give that person the Gift of the Holy Ghost. This gift is vital to us because it helps us to be a changed person and to be made clean again. In fact, this gift is so important that Christ said that everyone needs it in order to live with God. Since there are many people who have lived on this earth without having a chance to hear the gospel that Christ taught and be baptized like Christ was, God has planned that those people can be taught the gospel as spirits. People on earth can be baptized on behalf of those spirits. If they choose to accept the gospel they can be cleansed of all of their sins and can live with God again. This is how God can give everyone a fair chance to choose to live with him forever. Show more Show less
