Hi I'm Nick

I love moonlit walks on the beach and candlelit dinners with someone special:)

About Me

Hi! My name is Nick Vela! I'm 21 years old and excited that God has put on this earth at this exciting time of life. I'm from Waynesboro, Virginia. I've lived their practically my whole life. I love it's scenery and the humidity. I am the oldest of three children. My brother is 19 and my sister is 18. We are very very close:) At the moment, I'm currently serving as a missionary in the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission. I go home in August of 2012. I'm very sad that my mission is coming to an end because I love serving the Lord in this capacity. I love to play sports. My favorites are rugby, soccer, and golf. I'm a very active person so I need something to keep my energy at a descent level. I've gained a passion for photography in my life and a great appreciation for it. Music is a must! There's nothing like listening to music that calms you down and gets you focused. More than anything about me, the most important is that I love my Savior. I love God. I love the wonderful plan that they've made for all of us. My favorite hobby is to serve them. I'm not a big fan of reading until it comes to the scriptures. They really have helped me in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

Well, I was born into the church so I've been taught all through my life about my beliefs. Probably the most important thing to me about this religion is that I, including all, have the chance to live with my family in the presence of our Redeemer Jesus Christ and Our Heavenly Father. My family means so so so much to me here on earth, I don't know how I'd feel if I didn't have my family after this life. This whole peace of knowledge is part of the Plan of Salvation, which is very important to me. It answers where we came from, our life/purpose here on earth, and where are we going after this life. It's a huge piece of information that has helped me all through my life. Also, I just really love the principles that it teaches and how many great things that this Gospel has to offer to the family and to the personal self. Another huge thing is repentance. This is the way that we can return to our Heavenly Father's presence clean from sin. It's helped me all through my life and my testimony of repentance grows more and more every time I repent of something. This gospel means everything to me. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

How I live my faith

I live my faith just mainly by being the example. I try as best to live by the standards of this faith. I know that when I do, I am blessed. I know this because I can FEEL it. Right now I'm living my faith by serving a full-time mission for two years. I'm on my mission becasue I want everyone in the world to know and feel the happiness that I feel that comes from this faith. After my mission, I plan to continue to share the gospel to everyone that the Lord puts in my path. It's such a beautiful work that we can do to build up the kingdom of God here on earth!

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

We Mormons teach that baptism is for the remission of sins. This is why we believe in baptizing at the age of 8 years old because at this age, kids are able to retain the knowledge of what a sin is. We don't believe babies to be sinners becasue they don't have that knowledge of it is. We teach that we should follow the example of Jesus by baptized by immersion, which means completely under water (Matthew 3:13-16). Also, we believe that someone holding the power and authority of God (the priesthood) should baptize. John the Baptist held this same preisthood authority of God. This is how he was ableto properly baptize Jesus Christ. All other prophets had this same power as well. Show more Show less

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the same church that Christ formed when he was on the earth. That church exists today and has been restored to the earth once more in this dispensation. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Look around. Look at the birds, the trees, the animals, the flowers, and all other things that make this earth beautiful beyond measure. Only God could make something so distinct and beautiful. Have you taken time to pray about it? That is the only way we will be able to feel his presence and his existence. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Missionaries will come prepared to teach you the pathway back to our Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. They will teach you the way that you can obtain the promise of God that you can live with your family forever in His presence. They will teach you about the Book of Mormon and about prophets and how you can come to know the will of our Father in Heaven. Show more Show less
