Hi I'm Skyler

I drive a Chalkboard car and I'm a Mormon...

About Me

I am a student in college. I grew up in a split and later combined family. Many of my friends through high school did not share my beliefs. I served a LDS mission in North East, England for 2 years. I enjoy extreem sports such as snowboarding, longboarding, wakeboarding, skydiving and cliff jumping.

Why I am a Mormon

My whole life growing up I always had the choice of whether to go to church or not. My mom was a convert from Las Vegas and my father grew up in the church. My father later fell away from the church. This brought me into two different life styles, one week with my mom, one week with my dad. There was always happiness in both houses but I also felt something different when living with my mom. It wasn't that I didn't love my dad or he didn't love me, quite the opposite he was my best friend but something was missing. As I grew I began to realize that difference was the Spirit. As latter day saints we believe if you live your life in accordance with gospel teachings you qualify to have the Holy Ghost with you at all times. Although when we surround ourselves in environments that are not in harmony with church teachings, you can offend the spirit and it will leave. This is the main reason I am a member of the church, The Holy Ghost. Sometimes called the Spirit of God. I feel it presence directing me every day and in almost every situation I ask for it. I have felt His comfort when I lost my father, I have felt His direction in finding people who were sincerely seeking God, and I have felt His guidance in leading me to my eternal companion, my wife. I love it and the gospel of Jesus Christ leads me to a life to be more in tune with the prompting He is giving to me.

How I live my faith

I recently served on the student council of my college, where we would plan activities and dances that give students an opportunity to enjoy their weekends in a fun way where the spirit could still be present.

Who was Joseph Smith?

He was a young boy not curious weather God was real but rather what God expected of him. After asking God in prayer he received a miraculous answer which in turn led to the restoration of Gods church again on the earth today. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Absolutely YES! Some people have a hard time believing the Jesus Christ would appear all the way across the world to another people. You have to understand that there were prophets in ancient America, Christ had followers there too. It was prophesied that He would appear and He did. I have hear many people claim "there were only a very small number of people who saw the resurrected Jesus, how can we be sure they weren't lying or their claims were exaggerated later down the line." I feel as part of Gods infinite knowledge he prepared a quick simple answer to this question. That is the appearance of Christ to thousands all the way around the world. How then could different cultures and societies witness of the same being at the same time unless it were true. The book of Mormon is evidence that Christ was, is, and will forever be the savior of the entire world. A second witness to prove that He is, to both Jew and Gentile. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

While a particular dress code is not enforced. We are expected to dress in nice clothes that show reverence for the Lord and His church. In America men typically wear white shirts, slacks, and ties. Women typically wear dresses, long skirts, or pant suits. (other countries vary by what is traditionally considered to be respectful attire. Mormons do not have restrictions on what holidays we can celebrate. Some of my favorites being 4th of July, 24th of July, New Years Eve, and Chinese New Year. Because we get to watch fireworks on those days. Show more Show less
