Hi I'm Tom

I enjoy biking, family time and a busy day. I'm a Mormon

About Me

It has been a great ride so far! I am a California native. My wife and I have 5 children that are all doing good things. I have a degree in mechanical engineering and a masters in management and work as the president of the US division of an international aerospace services company. I have worked in aerospace my entire career which includes working on experimental rocket systems (the Delta Clipper DC-X) and a successful start-up that was purchased by an international company. I enjoy tech business. I serve on the board of a nano-technology company and a greentech company. I also serve on the Board of a non-profit educational foundation for science and math. We live in So California and enjoy all things outdoors. I enjoy mountain biking, road biking, the mountains and the beach. Princeville Hawaii is our happy place. My wife and I have been married over 25 years now. Life seems to get better with time!

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long line of Mormons. Most all of my ancestors joined the LDS Church in the 1840s in England and Scotland and emigrated to Utah. However, I was born in California to a family that was very liberal in religous thinking. Although I went to the Mormon Church as a youth, it was a social experience, not a religious one. I went off to college at a respected university in California. There I lived in a co-ed dorm and saw the raw college life of the early 80's. I quickly saw how some kids from good christian families that were away from home for the first time started making very bad choices. I was surprising to see how un-grounded they were and how unhappy and confused they became. I decided to learn more about Mormon doctrine to determine whether there was more to the church than an infrequent social outlet. My sophmore year at college, I studied the life of Christ and read the Book of Mormon. After doing so, I knelt at my bed with a determination to know if what the Mormon church taught was true. I prayed for only a short time when I felt a very strong presence with me telling me that what I had learned was true. At that point, I decided to become spiritually active in the Mormon church and 6 months later was in southern Chile serving as a missionary.

How I live my faith

Our family is very busy serving in the Mormon church. I currently serve as a volunteer leader of one of the local congregations in our town. This position is known as a Bishop. It gives our family the opportunity to help those in need both temporally and spiritually. As a parent, we fully embrace the traditional standards that our Church teachs our children. Being very clear with them to abstain from drugs and alcohol as well as premarital sex has been a great blessing for them. Our faith teaches them both why and how to abstain from destructive influences and it provides a strong support group for them and their friends. It is interesting to see how many kids that are not Mormon enjoy socializing with Mormon kids. They are fun, they are good and they do good things. It is a wonderful environment in which to raise a family. For us, our faith is also a healthy and happy way of life.
