Hi I'm Ben

I'm a college student, a bassist, and I love sports. Music is my passion. I'm currently serving a two year mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like a lot of things. Music is my passion, but I also enjoy playing sports (soccer in particular), video games, hiking, and pretty much everything outdoors. I play the bass, electric and upright, and enjoy playing everything from rock to orchestral to jazz. I'm currently a student at Brigham Young University (stereotypical, yeah?). At the moment I'm just taking generals, I figure I have 2 years to figure out what to do with my life. I love to learn about history, world politics, and music. I'm about to leave on a mission to Cusco, Peru, where I'm sure I am as you are reading this. I'm excited to get out there and serve the people of Peru.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was born into the church, I consider myself a convert. While I never left the church or became inactive, I went through a period of searching and discovering other religions for myself, and never felt anything anywhere close to the spirit I felt while, for instance, going to the temple. I've had numerous experiences that have helped to solidify my testimony and make me want to share the spirit I feel with others. As a missionary, I've really realized just how big a blessing the restored gospel is. Seeing others come unto Christ has helped me know how blessed I've been to be a lifelong member.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a two year mission for the Church. During this time, I am preaching the gospel to those who, hopefully, are ready to receive it. We wake up at 6:30, and pretty much teach, study the gospel, and do service until we go to bed. It's actually a lot of fun, I've always loved serving others. Now I'm just doing it as a Representative of Christ. It's fantastic to see other people realize what they've been missing in their lives or feel the spirit for the time. I love missionary work, it'll be a shame when my mission ends and I go back to the real world. One of my favorite parts of being a Mormon is going to the Temple. While I can't discuss the particulars of the ordinances we do there (don't worry, it's not secret, just sacred), I can testify to you that there is a special spirit there. The only thing that's made me feel even close to the same spirit is the Missionary Training Center. My faith has strengthened me in many ways, but primarily in my love for others. I love service and helping others. One of my goals as a missionary is to have Christlike love for the poeple of Peru, that is, to love them more than myself.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

To know the Church is true, all you have to do is pray about it! There's a scripture in the Book of Mormon, in Moroni 10:4-5, that says to know the truth of anything, you must pray, and if it is true, you will know through the power of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost can manifest itself in many ways, from a still small voice to a simple feeling of peace in your heart. I promise you, as an ordained missionary of Jesus Christ, that if you read the Book of Mormon and pray about its truthfulness, and that of the Restored Gospel, you will receive the answer you are seeking.
