Hi I'm Emily

I look for any excuse to be outside. I play rugby. I'm a wife and mother and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

If I could describe my life with just one word it would be adventure – not only because I love adventures of every kind, but because I like to view each day as one! I grew up in a small town in Idaho and was excited to see the world and experience life as soon as I left home. I've lived and worked all over the place and served a mission in Brazil when I was half-way through college. These experiences widened my view of life and gave me an ever increasing gratitude for the blessings in my life. I am an avid rugby player and look for a team to join wherever I am located – even if it means playing with the guys! I have played with my current team for over 4 years and love my teammates like siblings. I enjoy rafting, backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, and almost anything else you can do outdoors. Retreating to the mountains can be like hitting a “reset” button in life and helps me to clear my mind and keep things in perspective. I am married to the most wonderful, amusing, and creative man I've ever met that has an appetite for adventure that matches my own. I couldn't possibly think of someone better for me, and I am extremely happy in my marriage. We have a little boy and love bringing him with us on our adventures.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I need perspective in my life – from the way I view myself, to those around me, to who God is, to what eternity will be like – and more. The teachings of Christ provide me with perspective that brings me the most happiness in my life, and nowhere have I found such clarity in His teachings and doctrine than at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I searched truth of this church out for myself, and as I did so it was impossible for me to deny the way that my life improved and I found myself and my relationship with God. I can confidently say that I know who I am, I know of the love that the Lord has for me and for all of His children and I know where I want to go, both in this life and eternally. I view my marriage and family relations as eternal, which brings me so much joy! I also know that this life involves an ongoing learning process. How grateful I am that because of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for each of us we can continue to learn and grow throughout our lives! I love Him and know that as we turn to Him, He will help us and deepen our perspective in the way that we need it most.

How I live my faith

I love the Savior, Jesus Christ, and my greatest desire is to be like Him. When I think of him, the most dominant characteristic that floods my mind is love. To be like Him I know that I must love others as He does. I do my very best to love those around me as the Savior would – on my rugby team, at work, with friends, even in the grocery store! As I strive to see the best in others and love them like the Savior would as well as love the Lord, it is amazing how I can feel His love for them as well as His love for me. It seems to enlarge my capacity and desire to serve those around me and enriches my life. Also, I love the scriptures. I feel that there is no better way to flood my life with the light of God than reading His words, and I make it a point to read and learn from the scriptures every day. I teach a class in my ward about the basic principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for visitors and new members, and try to incorporate what I am learning from the scriptures into my classes. In addition, I love to teach children. We have many children in my ward and occasionally I get the opportunity to teach them. I love watching their eyes light up as they learn about Jesus Christ.
