Hi I'm Barrett

I grew up in Idaho and now live in Washington. My interests are eclectic. My greatest joy is my wife and 4 children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a native of Idaho, born and raised there. I relocated to Southern Texas with my wife and, then, one kid. (There are four now). I currently live in Eastern Washington. (It sure was good to get back to sagebrush and rolling hills and away from hurricanes.) I'm employed as a reliability engineer for a fertilizer manufacturer. I'm a tinkerer, a jack of many trades. I enjoy carpentry and woodworking, mechanics and machining, taking things apart to understand better how they work, and just doing things with my hands in general.

Why I am a Mormon

Some might look at my history and decide that they know why I'm a Mormon, "It's because your parents are." Not exactly, though they certainly had something to do with it. I remember my father spoke of doctrines and principles and followed with, "You can know this for yourself, too." As a teenager, I began to ask questions about what I'd been taught, began to wonder if it really was true. It wasn't until I took my Dad's counsel to heart that I discovered the truth for myself. I began to not just ask the questions, but to pray them, and earnestly. I remember the flood of peace and happiness and the certainty that filled me when I asked and listened. Since that time, I've felt the same peace and reassurance that indeed this is His church and what my parents taught me is true. How happy it makes me!

How I live my faith

When I think of the things that keep me busy, I think of these three: work, family, and church. The truth is that they are all one and the same -- my faith. Work is to provide for my family and ensure that we have the means to focus on what is really important - serving others and Jesus Christ. Each day I live my ideals no matter what the work load is. The time I spend with my family is to build relationships that will last, and ultimately, help my children to know Christ. The church service I render has as its end goal helping other church members to turn to Christ. I am a Sunday School teacher and instruct a class of 16 & 17 year olds with my wife. It's one of the highlights of my week I love working with learning from youth. I'm often amazed by the abilities of young people and hope that I can be instrumental in helping them reach their potential. Outside of those three major efforts are the hobbies I enjoy. Even they play a role in living my faith. I enjoy running, hiking and biking (perhaps not as often as I should). I love to get out into the outdoors and see the God's handiwork.
