Hi I'm Erik

I'm an organic farming, father of 5, basketball loving, Wake Forest Demon Deacon, BYU Cougar, raised in NC Mormon.

About Me

I am 45 and have a tremendous wife and 5 children a 19 year-old serving a 2-year Spanish-speaking mission,17 year-old daughter, a 15 year-old daughter, a 12 year-old daughter, and a 6-year-old daughter. I served 2-year mission in Mexico followed by 10 years’ service in the Army Reserves as an NCO and airborne interrogator. I received a bachelor's degree in Russian a Master of Organizational Behavior degree. In my career, I have been a management consultant, a Human Resources executive, a GM in development and homebuilding, and have now started an organic farm while focusing on health and wellness products. I love sports, history, and spending time with my family. I married the finest woman one could imagine.

Why I am a Mormon

I have received personal revelation through the power of the Holy Ghost that this is the Lord's organization established on the earth to bring the children of God to Christ. It has not been an intellectual process--though my intellect has been stretched in attaining this knowledge--but a spiritual process by which this testimony has been planted in my heart. I have read the Bible and and know it to be of divine origin. In like manner, I have read the Book of Mormon and had the unmistakable impression borne by the Spirit as to its truthfulness. The Bible is opened up to me as a result of reading the Book of Mormon. It testifies of Christ, explains the atonement in ways that no other book does, and stands as a witness that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I have seen the fruits of the gospel manifest in so many ways. I believe that it is through the grace of God that I can receive the saving and sanctifying blessings of the atonement in my life and by no merits of my own. I believe that I can receive these blessings if I exercise faith in Christ, repent of my sins, try my best to live up to my covenants, and repent every time I fall short which is daily. This knowledge, that Christ is there to lighten my burdens and carry the yoke with me, regardless my weakness, brings peace and hope in my life.

How I live my faith

First and foremost, I live my faith by working hand-in-hand with my wife to raise a family unto the Lord. We live in a world where we must teach and live correct principles if our children are to be protected. I serve in the Church at this time by coordinating the work of sharing our beliefs with the members of our community. I work with full-time missionaries to find those who are interested in learning more about us--and not bothering those who don't! I have had many opportunities to work with the youth in our church. Our congregation coordinates with the NC Department of Social Services to distribute US Department of Agriculture surplus food to those who are in need. It is a wonderful experience to do this quarterly as we are blessed in serving others. One of my favorite assignments has been to teach an early-morning religion class for high-school age youth. Imagine a group of teenagers coming to the church at 630 am 5 days a week before school to receive instruction for 50 minutes. It is an amazing program that provides tremendous spiritual strength to our youth on a daily basis as they go into school settings where they are exposed to a tremendous amount of negative influences.
