Hi I'm Jarrett

I've risen above the negative influences of the world around, and chosen the higher road. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm from Atlanta, Georgia. My favorite hobbies are writing and drawing. It's always been the best way for me to express my ideas, and I like to read, write and draw in the spare time that I have. I've been a user of Photoshop and GIMP ever since my early teenage years and I plan to pursue a career in Graphic Design as soon as I return home.

Why I am a Mormon

I've seen all around growing up ideas and doctrines that don't build anything but fear and disappointment, but is that really what Jesus Christ taught? Is living by fear of God, instead of love and reverence really what God and His Beloved Son want from us? When I read the Book of Mormon, I feel peace. Jesus was wise, but His gospel is simple, and what the church and the Book of Mormon teach us about families, the restored gospel, and about God are powerful, but simple as well.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving as a full-time missionary in the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission. Las Vegas is quite the transition from someone coming from Georgia, especially with the dryness! Still, I am enjoying the work very much and can already recognize all of the positive changes it is having on my life.

What is Mormonism? OR What do Mormons believe?

Jarrett
Mormons believe in the "Book of Mormon." Hence the nickname. We also believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ,-gospel meaning "good news"-, has been restored in its fulness and simplicity to the Earth, by a loving God, through a living prophet. We believe the priesthood that Christ and His Apostles held has returned giving the authority to mankind to perform the ordinances of salvation, such as baptism. We believe that families are the most important unit now and in eternity and that those bonds which we have made in this life can last forever. Most importantly, we believe that God lives and that anyone can know if these things are true through prayer and the power of the Holy Ghost. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Jarrett
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is what is makes it possible for us to enter again into God's presence. Jesus taught us that no unclean thing can be in the presence of God. We all are imperfect beings, chained down and wounded by sin, but through the Atonement, we can have those wounds healed and the chains removed. The more we begin to understand that sacrifice, those closer we can come to Him and develop a better love and appreciation for who He is. Show more Show less

How does the Church finance its operations?

Jarrett
Members of the Church believe in the Law of Tithing Malachi. We contribute a tenth part of our income to help the Church. The money is used to build chapels, temples and other things. Members also donate a small offering, called a "fast offering," once a month on Fast Sunday usually the beginning of each month. These donations are used to help members who may be struggling with providing for themselves. None of the money is used to pay the ministers of the Church missionaries, bishops, etc.  Show more Show less

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Jarrett
The Prophet, or President of the Church today, is Thomas Spencer Monson. While praying about the manner in which we are to be baptized, the prophet John the Baptism appeared to Joseph Smith, laid his hands upon his head and conferred to him the Priesthood of Aaron. Later, Christ's apostles Peter, James, and John delivered to the prophet and his scribe Oliver Cowdery the higher and very same Priesthood authority that Jesus Christ himself gave to them. Each prophet succeeding Joseph Smith was in turn given this authority down to the current prophet, forming an unbroken line leading back to Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Jarrett
The leaders of that industry target young people and take advantage of their innocence and curiosity. If bad habits are formed when people are young, they're a lot harder to break later on. Young people must know by explaining to them just how dangerous pornography really is, and must have people who are non-judgmental and generous ready to help them out of the habit if they have already fallen. How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Jarrett
It's one thing to believe in Jesus Christ, and another to actually do what He says. Jesus said, "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." If one wants to increase their faith in Christ and in God, and know and understand them and what they have said, one should keep the commandments that have been given and enjoy the results of doing so.  Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Jarrett
Women hold positions in the Church and lead organizations like the Primary and the Relief Society, which are very important to the Church. It's important to understand that every office in the Church, is for the purpose of serving. Men and women serve in many similar ways, such as missionary service. However, men are called to do things that women aren't,-and vice versa-, because that is the order which the Lord has commanded. He knows what we are best prepared to do more than anyone else.  Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Jarrett
We must have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is through him that we will be saved and no other man, thought or object. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Jarrett
Faith is a hope for things which we can't see, but are true hope is a desire or feeling of confidence that things will turn out for the better However, faith and hope aren't just blind feelings. The prophet Alma invites us to take an "expirement" of faith, and when sincerely do that, we will find the fruits and our faith and hope will grow stronger. Show more Show less
