Hi I'm Brent

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, and a father of three young children. My profession is information security. I work for a large financial corporation. Science is my "hobby".

Why I am a Mormon

I love the gospel. I love reading the Bible and I have learned so much about life by reading it through. Even though I am a man of science, the Bible contains teachings about humankind that are beyond the discoveries of science. Additionally, the Book of Mormon teaches those same principles that are found in the Bible - but from the perspective and experiences of another civilization. I am a Mormon because I believe in these two books. I believe that we can use their guidance to live a full and happy life. I certainly don't mean to imply that being a Mormon excludes one from having hardships; and I most certainly don't live a perfect life. However, by reading these great books, I have come to a knowledge of Jesus Christ and what he has done for each and every one of us. I know my life would be substantially different if I had not learned of these things. I have come to know that God loves us, and that is why he has given us these teachings. Our lives on Earth are a test. And as I can attest to, we will all experience extreme trials which can bring us down to utter despair. I testify that His love can be felt even during those times. Every part of my life has true meaning, and I know this because I took that step to find out. I know the Bible and Book of Mormon are true. I know Christ is our Savior. I know that our Father in Heaven loves every one of us.

How I live my faith

In our church we are like a community. We work to benefit each other, and we are also taught to serve the community outside of our church. About four years ago, I was asked to be a leader for the young men (12 to 18 year-olds) - including serving in the Boy Scouts of America program. I was a bit taken back by the request; but then I remembered how much I benefited in my own days as a youth by having such great leaders. I realized that this was an honor. One of the core principles of Boy Scouts is service. It is because of this principle that our church has invested so much into the program. We believe that serving others is one of the best ways to show love towards one another. During those four years our Boy Scouts have helped clean up areas around the city, have helped residents with their yard work where they are unable to, themselves, have even traveled to other cities to help beautify the public lands, and much more. It's tough for these young men to choose to come and participate in these projects over the video games that they could rather stay home and play. However, I feel that by teaching them the value of service, I am teaching them what being a good citizen is about. I am teaching them how to be good and loving husbands and fathers. And that is what this church is all about.
