Hi I'm John

I've been a Mormon my whole life.

About Me

I graduated from college in 2010 with a degree in Mathematics. I am currently in the process of starting my career. My hobbies include reading and doing both word and number games. I also have an intense interest in furthering my education and general knowledge.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church. My parents were born into the church and my father can trace his ancestry back to the early days of the church in these latter-days. However, I didn't always have a desire to be a member of this church, or any church for that matter. I spent a large portion of my youth and early adulthood away from the church. A long string of poor decisions in my life led me down a path that I eventually saw led to destruction. As I returned to church I learned of the healing power and comfort that the Atonement affords all of us. I learned that our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, love me. This love is manifested in the many gifts that are available to me if I keep His commandments. I have come to find out that obedience doesn't limit me in the things that I am able to do, it expands all possibilities and opens doors that would be closed to me otherwise. I realize now, through the grace of God, that I have an eternal potential and I am destined for great things, in this life and in the life that comes after this one. The gospel gives me hope and it brightens my outlook on the future and I'm so grateful for the blessings that I've experienced since returning to church. This IS Christ's church.

How I live my faith

As a member of this church and especially as a holder of the Priesthood, it is my responsibility to serve other members of the church. Unlike other churches in the world, our church doesn't have a professional clergy. All of the leaders are common, everyday people that have jobs and the service that they provide is entirely voluntary. I currently serve in a semi-leadership position in my congregation. I am responsible for conducting meetings and assigning other members of my priesthood group as Home Teachers. This means that we all visit with members of our congregation in their homes, outside of our regular church meetings to minister to them and teach them. I am also responsible (sometimes) to teach Sunday School and our Priesthood group classes. Outside of church I work as a manager of a restaurant and I have opportunities all the time to share with my coworkers( and sometimes even the customers!) some of the basics of what we believe as Mormons.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by Mormon and his son, Moroni. These men used records that were handed down from generation to generation and compiled them into a more concise and usable edition. The Latter-Day prophet, Joseph Smith, Jr, was given this compilation and with divine assistance translated the records. This translation is what we now call the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

I think the church grows fastest in areas of the world where life is very difficult. This can be attributed to the fact that people who are afflicted often humble themselves and are more receptive to the promptings of the Spirit. Show more Show less
