Hi I'm Clay

I'm an outdoorsman. I'm a gamer. I play paintball. And I'm a Mormon, better yet, I'm a Latter-Day Saint.

About Me

I'm a normal 20 year old guy from the beautiful state of Utah. I love my family, the outdoors, hanging out with my friends, going paintballing, playing video games, and helping others.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that there is no other way to be completely happy in this life or be with my family forever. And that is what makes me so happy, what we know.

How I live my faith

How do I live my faith? By trying to be the best example I can be to my friends and by serving the Lord by being on a mission for two years.

What is being a Mormon like?

Clay
I'm just like you. I'm a son, a brother, a friend, a classmate, a fellow employee. I have good days and I have bad days. I see the world that we are in, and have some of the same worries as you. The only thing that makes me different from you is what I know. What I know is what makes my worries different, it's why I choose not to do certain things like drinking and smoking. It's what we know, not believe, but what we know that makes us different. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Clay
They most definately can. One thing I look forward to the most is marrying the beautiful daughter of God that I will spend eternity with. Yes our families can be together forever if we do what Heavenly Father has asked us to. That is why a prophet is so necessary, he tells us what Heavenly Father needs and wants us to do now in our day. Show more Show less

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

Clay
It is so necessary. Christ taught that unless we are baptized we can't enter the Kingdom of Heaven. It's the first of what we call 'Saving Ordinances', or those sacred ceremonies that we need to perform in order to live with Heavenly Father again. We also know that without the Gift of the Holy Ghost, baptism is incomplete. A person can only be baptized, and given the Gift of the Holy Ghost by someone who has the authority from Heavenly Father to do so. Little children don't need baptism because they are pure. Through revelation we know that the age to be baptized is eight years old. Little children who died before the age of eight are not condemned, they are saved through the power of Christ. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Clay
Because the authority to perform baptisms was lost for so long. For 1800 or so years no one on Earth had the authority to perform baptism, how many people lived during that time? We know that baptism is necessary and that all need it. Since most didn't have the opportunity to be baptized by the proper authority, we can help them do it now, in their behalf. How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?

Clay
It's as simple as just talking to someone. Talk to your friends, ask them qeustinos and tell them that you want to meet with the missionaries. They will be more than happy to introduce you to them. Missionaries are people in the Church, usually young men and women, who put their lives on hold for two years just for that reason, to talk to you. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Clay
Nothing that goes on in Temples is secret, but it is very sacred. It is in Temples that we make special promises with our Heavenly Father and learn everything we need to know to return to him someday. If we break these promises we cannot return to the Temple until we have repented and changed our ways. That is why some Mormons aren't allowed to go inside, because they have broken the promises they have made to Heavenly Father. Heavenly Father wants all of his children to go to the Temple, but only those who are willing to accept the responsibility of those promises and the things that we learn are allowed to go inside. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Clay
He is the litteral father of our spirits. We are all sons and daughters of God. He loves us and like any loving parent, he wants the best for us and he wants us to be able to come home. Fortunately, He's God so he knows exactly what is best for each of us, because he knows everything. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Clay
When men recieve the priesthood, the authority to act in God's name, we take upon ourselves the blessing and task to share the gospel with everyone. No one is forced to do anything in the Church, but like all commandments, if you don't do them you will not recieve the blessings. Show more Show less

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Clay
The tithing that we pay, that ten percent of what we earn, is very sacred and is treated as such. We don't use tithing the way a lot of people think because it isn't used to pay our leaders, in fact no one in the Church gets paid for what they do. Tithing is used to not only keep the buildings we use running, but it helps build new chapels and Temples to be used by members all over the world to bless them and their families. Show more Show less

What is the Church's position on abortion?

Clay
Because we don't know exactly when it is that the spirit enters the physical body the Church is against abortion. We do not have the right to take away the chance of living away from anyone, even if they haven't born yet. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Clay
The priesthood is the power to act in God's name, given to us to help His children. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Clay
It's a cheesey example, but look at it this way: If your friend had a fool proof way to get a million dollars and knew how you could get it too, wouldn't you want to know about it? That's why we proselyte, to tell everyone how we got it and they can get their own spiritual $1,000,000 check. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Clay
Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That's the first step in everything we do. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Clay
No. The Church does encourage all Mormons everywhere to be involved in whatever government they have and to know what is going on in the world, but they do not support or endorse any group. As members of the Church we are instructed to know the issues and then to pray and act to the best of our knowlege and how we feel. Show more Show less

How does the Church finance its operations?

Clay
One way is tithing. The money we pay in tithing is sacred and is used to maintain and build new buildings like chapels and Temples. The Church is completely self sufficient and has no debt. The money we give as members of the Church is used prayerfully to find out exactly what our Heavenly Father wants to be done with it. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Clay
A restoration had to happen because the authority that Christ had given his apostles was no longer on the Earth. That authority is one of the most important things to have, and without it, the church that Christ had set up fell away because no one had the authority to keep them in the light of true doctrine. When the Church was restored, that's exactly what happened, it was restored. All of the truths that Christ had taught were brought back to the Earth and that authority was given to man again. Show more Show less

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Clay
They are the best kind of women you can find. Yes men and women are completely equal. We each have our different responsiblities and things that are expected of us, but we do them together. No one is over anyone else. The best way I've heard it described is: Eve wasn't made from the bottom of Adam's foot so he could rule over her, she wasn't made from the top of his head to rule over him, she was made from his side to rule with him. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Clay
By living the way He wants us to. Following His commandments will allow him to bless us. As He blesses us we will feel our lives change. As we see our lives change we will recognize where it came from and our faith will have increased because we see the power that lays in following Christ. Does that mean everything will always be perfect and wonderful? No. If it was we would not grow or progress. It does mean, however, that we know even though times are rough, there are better days ahead. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Clay
Of course not, we help everyone we can. If we can't help someone we try to tell them who might be able to. We are all children of our Heavenly Father regardless of religion. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Clay
We live just like everyone else. We have homes, cars, computers, T.V.'s, we go to school, to the movies, to the mall; we do just about everything everone else does. On Sunday we go to Church to more fully remember what Christ did for us. During the week we try our hardest to live how he would want us to live and do what he would do. Ours isn't a Sunday only religion, it's part of our everyday life. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

Clay
Attending our weekly church services helps us remember the Lord and gives us a spiritual recharge. Going to the Temple is much more sacred because that is the place where we can be closest to our Heavenly Father. In the Temple we make promises with Heavenly Father and it is within those holy walls that we learn all the things we need to in order to live with our Heavenly Father and our families again. What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Clay
Our purpose here is to prepare to go home to live with our Heavenly Father again with our families. That's what it's all about, the family. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Clay
I like to look at it like this, we are all in a race. At the begining of the race we are told that if we stop or slow down even a little bit we will never make it to the finish line. When the race is over, none of us will be at the finish line because we all slowed down, or stopped at one time or another, but the official of the race will come to each of us and look at how we did. If we ran as best we could, even with our little stops and mess ups, the official will place the finish line behind our feet, we will win the race. We all started life, just like the race. And we all slow down our pace, stop and sometimes even run the wrong way by sinning, or choosing not to keep the commandments. But if we run the best we can and rely on Christ he will come and place the finish line behind us. If we didn't do the best we could, then the finish line that could have been behind us will be out of reach. It's the same with grace. We are offered grace, but we have to do our part. Just like if you stay at the starting line at a race, run the other way, or stop in the middle, you can't win. It's not because you didn't have the ability, or you were missing support from your family, it's because you chose not to run. Christ expects us to run, he knows we can do it with his help. If we choose not to run by not keeping the commandments he has given us, then grace cannot save us. Christ said he would save us FROM our sins, not IN our sins. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Clay
Not only is it a commandment given through a modern prophet but it's what Christ taught. Besides, we shouldn't need to get paid to tell people about the best thing in our lives. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about "eternal life?"

Clay
Eternal life is living with Heavenly Father forever with our families. We will live in his presence and be happy forever. That is eternal life. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Clay
Everything. There is no way that all of this, including you reading this, could have just 'happened', there has to be something, or someone, behind it all. And there is, our Heavenly Father. He made all of this for us to be happy. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Clay
The Law of Chastity is a law regarding sexual purity. It is Heavenly Father's commandment on how to use the ability we have to have children. We know through this law that Heavenly Father wants us to be pure in every way, to do that He has told us to not have sexual relations with anyone until we are married; and after we are married we are only to have those relations with our husbands (for women) and wives (for men). He didn't give us this to restrict us in any way, he gave it to us to protect us. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Clay
Yes. Christ is the center of everything we do. Everything we teach, learn, and proclaim is based in what He did for us and what He taught. Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Clay
It is a sin to be in those kind of relations. The marriage between a man and a women is a sacred bond ordained of God. Homosexuality and same-sex marriage is against Heavenly Father's plan and His laws. We don't look down on anyone because of it, but we know it is wrong and ask all to repent and come home. Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Yes. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

Clay
After we die there is a waiting period before we are judged that we call the spirit world. It's in the spirit world that those who lived righteously will be at peace and be free from the cares of the world. After Christ comes again and we are all resurrected, or after our bodies and our spirits reunite again, we will be judged according to not only what we wanted to do, but what we did do. If we have done all we have been commanded to do then we will be able to live with our families forever in happiness. That's why our Heavenly Father put us into families, because he wants us to have the same joy that he does, because he is our father and he loves us. Show more Show less

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Clay
The father is to preside over the home and provide for his family and protect them. The mother is to nurture their children and teach. Both need to work together for a home and family to be happy and succesfull. We have our different roles and those are given to us from Heavenly Father because He knows we can do it. What do Mormons believe about the Holy Ghost? Who is the Holy Ghost?

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Clay
I have a hard time when people ask me that question because my short answer is No. My long answer is I don't believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today, I KNOW there is a prophet like Moses alive today. Just like Moses he leads us and guides us and lets us know what our Heavenly Father expects of us and how we can protect ourselves and our families from spiritual danger that we face everyday. It is so much more than a belief. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Clay
The most important thing to do, and the best way to prevent it and stop it is to keep the commandments. Pornography causes us to break the commandments. It starts in our own homes. We have to make sure our homes are free of it first, then we need to help those around us become aware of the plague and help them prevent it. We have to work together, all of us, in order to stop it's spread. Show more Show less

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Clay
Because we all make mistakes. If Christ didn't come and pay the debt that we couldn't, then there would be no way to go back home to our Heavenly Father. And that's the whole point of coming here, to prepare to go back home. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

What do Mormons believe about "eternal life?"

Clay
We know that Eternal Life is the most precious gift from God that we can recieve, and now we know exactly what it means. Eternal Life means I can live with my family as a family forever. Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Clay
This is called the Law of Tithing. Heavenly Father has asked us to give back just 10 of what He has already given to us so that the Kingdom can grow and expand. There are also a lot of blessings promised to us if we keep this law. In Malachi 38-12 Heavenly Father is actually getting mad at the people for not paying their tithing, in fact He says they have robbed Him. Then He challenges them. He tells them to prove Him, to try it out and see if He doesn't keep his side of the promise. Of course, He always does. That is why we pay out tithing, because Heavenly Father asked us to, so we can help build the Kingdom, and so he can bless us. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Clay
I love this question. Just like every other "position" in the Church whether it be a Bishop, or the President of some orginization within the Church, we don't get paid. In fact I saved before my mission to help pay for it. Although I wasn't able to save all of it, so my family is helping me be able to serve the Lord. We pay for ourselves. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Clay
This is a really old example, in fact I think my Dad used this, but it works very well. If you were speeding down the road and an Ice-Cream Man pulled up behind you playing his little jingle, pulled you over, and gave you a ticket, are you going to pay the ticket? I doubt you would even stop. But on the other hand, if a state trooper pulls up behind you with his lights flashing and his sirens blaring, and he gives you a ticket, you have to pay the ticket. It's the same idea, the Ice-Cream Man didn't have the authority to give you a ticket, so you didn't pay any attention to him, but the trooper does and you have to listen to him. The same works with baptism, if the one who baptizes you doesn't have the authority, it's not going to have any effect. Christ said unless a man is born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of Heaven baptism. That's why authority is important, when we want to enter into the Kingdom if our baptism wasn't done properly by the authority of God, we can't go in. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Clay
It's a neat little nic-name. The reason we are called "Mormons" is because we have a new book of scripture called "The Book of Mormon". Since a lot of people knew about the Book of Mormon, but not too many knew the name of the Church, we have been nic-named Mormons.  Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Clay
They will talk a LOT about the Book of Mormon. We do that because we know that you can know that what we are saying is true by reading it and praying about it. So don't be surprised when the missionaries keep asking you if you've read, and why they are sad when you don't. They will talk about what is important to you and help you see how our message will bless you in every aspect of your life. Most importantly, they will guide you in how to come closer to Christ. How can I know Mormonism is true?

Clay
The exact same way I did! It's an amazing experience to find the truth, all of it. It starts by wanting to know, you can't just wonder, you have to have a desire to know the answer and plan on acting on it. Then read the Book of Mormon and follow the promise it gives you at the end, Moroni 103-5, pray and ask if the book really is the word of God. I know that if you do you will find the answer, that Heavenly Father will answer your prayer, and that you will know it is true. I know that, because like I said, That's what I did.   Show more Show less

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Clay
They are a place we go to learn and to grow. They are also the place where we help those who have passed on recieve the blessings that we have and enjoy. In Temples we make the most sacred promises, and recieve the most sacred blessings. That's why we are only allowed to enter in when we are ready. Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

Clay
There isn't enough space to write the answer to this question. We can be happy, have joy, have comfort in hard times, recieve answers to questions, be guided, be protected, recieve promptings that will help us, warn us when we aren't doing something we should, or doing something we shouldn't. The most important thing the Holy Ghost does though, is it lets us know that we are on the right track, that the sacrifice that Christ made for us, His atonement, is real and it is working in our lives to help make us better. All of these things come from the Holy Ghost, which everyone feels from time to time. But when we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, we can have all of these, all the time if we live worthily. It's the second half of baptism, being "born of the spirit" John 316. Being baptized is like unlocking the deadbolt, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost is like unlocking the knob. How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Clay
Because it's only in the family that we can have the most and the best blessings that our Heavenly Father can give to us. What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Clay
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the single most important thing to ever happen in the eternities. It is what makes it possible for us to be happy in this life and be able to return to live with our Father in Heaven again and be happy there too. The Atonement is what makes life worth living, and it helps us live it. Without it all of us would be lost, life would be hopeless, we could never return to live with Heavenly Father again. I know that the Atonement happened, it's real. I know that Jesus Christ loved us enough to come down and suffer for each and every one of our sins so that if we live right, keep the promises we make with our Heavenly Father, and do our best to keep all of the commandments he has given us, we can be happy and return to Heavnly Fathers presence at the end of this life. Where did Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints begin?

Clay
That could be answered in two different ways. The first way is that after Joseph Smith was called to be a Prophet, Heavenly Father used him to re-establish His Church. That Happened in New York. The other way to answer that is it started with Christ. That Church that was set up by the Saviour Himself was brought back and is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or the "Mormon Church." It is His Church Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Clay
They were meant for the time of Jesus, and they are meant for our time. Jesus taught that His Church was "...built upon the foundation of apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone." Ephesians chapter 2 verse 20. Without the apostles, we don't have Christ's Church. Just like when Judas, who betrayed Christ, was then replaced by Matthias Acts 1, we were meant to keep having apostles, but the people became to wicked and wouldn't listen to them. So the Lord withdrew his power and authority just like every other time His children woulnd't listen. We do have 12 Apostles again, because we are Christ's Church, as He set it up, and as He wants it now.   Show more Show less

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

Clay
To become a member you must learn what it means to be a member and be willing to make the promises required by Heavenly Father that you make in order to recieve all of His blessings. You learn this by meeting with missionaries, coming to our services and one of the most important things is to read and pray about the Book of Mormon, and gain a wittness of it. Then, after gaining a wittness, and choosing to follow Christ, you will be baptized by the authority of God and become a member of Christ's true Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints the Mormon Church. How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Clay
The Book of Mormon teaches the exact same Gospel as the Bible does, that we can become free from sin because Christ came and fulfilled his mission. The only differences are the who and the where. The Book of Mormon takes place in the Americas, and just as the Bible is a record of the dealings of God with those in Jerusalem, The Book of Mormon is the record of God's dealings with the people in the Americas. Joseph Smith was led to the Gold Plates by the last prophet to write on them. His name is Moroni, he came as an angel to the Prophet and told him where they were. After finding the place The Prophet Joseph was told it wasn't the right time to obtain them yet, so for the next few years he went back, the same time every year, and was taught by Moroni. Finally, after those years of preparation he was allowed to take the plates. The Prophet then translated them into what we now have, The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ, and how gratefull I am that he did. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Clay
The biggest and most important thing that has helped the Church grow is the simple fact that it is true. Missionaries take the message that the true Church of Jesus Christ is back on the Earth to anyone and everyone, them it is up to each of us to find out if it is true or not. We don't ask our friends, or our leaders, if we do it is only to ask how we can find out for ourselves. Then we do just that, we ask our Heavenly Father if it is true, and just as He has promised, He will and does answer. The truth is the gas that powers the expansion of the Church.
