Hi I'm Cathy

I love being a Mormon. Through my faith, I find meaning and purpose in the many different roles I play as a woman.

About Me

I am a happily married woman (15 years and counting) and a mother of three. I worked for several years outside of the home as a nurse. I am currently a stay at home, home-schooling mom. I really dislike scrapbooking, fast-food restaurants and folding laundry. I really like gardening, hiking, reading, cooking, music and meeting new people. I love to be with my family. Being a stay at home mom is sometimes a challenge for me, but I know that I am irreplaceable in the lives of my children. To help me, I have learned I am happiest when I take a few minutes everyday to exercise and study my scriptures. Something else that helps me is to talk with women who inspire me, like my own mom. In a few years I would like to advance my college education. In the meantime, while my children are at home, I am working on smaller hobbies (like art and gardening) and it is fulfilling.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an active Mormon family. And there came a time in my life when I wondered why I really believed what I do. I decided that there are two ways to live your life when you have questions....you can live in a faithful and believing way or you can live in a critical, hesitant and doubting way. I am a Mormon because I choose to live in a faithful and believing way and the fruit in my life is good. It is real and it is rewarding. I find happiness in serving in the church, serving others, sharing what I have learned and teaching my children at home. When I was in highschool I asked my dad, (who was baptized when he was 21) why he believed and why he chose to join the Mormon church. He said, "by their fruits ye shall know them" (Matt. 7:20). Then he talked about how he was able to see the beautiful fruit in his life because of the choice he made to be baptized and the verity of that decision. This discussion made an impression on me and has helped me contrast the different fruit I see offered around me. I find the teachings in my faith clear and distinctive about the Godhead and through scripture study, prayer and repentence, I have been able to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and come to know Him as my Savior. As I study the Bible and Book and Book of Mormon together, I find clarity as I try to understand God and His plan for us here on earth.

How I live my faith

To me, living my faith is about learning to love other people, and love comes easiest when serving. I enjoy opportunities to serve both in and out of the church. In my ward I currently am working in the youth program. Some of my favorite home school "field trips" are when my children and I can serve together in the community. A couple of fun experiences we have had are putting flags on the graves of veterans and delivering food for meals on wheels.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Definitely Yes! As I have studied the Old Testament I have been able to better understand why there are temples on the earth today. God has made covenants with people since the beginning of the world, it makes sense that he still desires his children to make similar covenants today. As I mentioned above in a previous portion, I find clarity in the Bible as I study it with the Book of Mormon. And I have felt the Holy Spirit witness to me the truths of both books.
