Hi I'm Melissa

I'm a wife, a friend, and a steakhouse hostess. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have traveled a great deal in my life for the US Air force. I have lived in areas where I was a minority in many respects including my race and my religion. It strengthens me to know that we all share many things in common like laughter, family, and values. I enjoy fine arts including performing and theatrical arts and home and interior decorating. I also really like to learn. I enjoyed high school and excelled in college. I am most happy when I am surrounded by people who love me and make me laugh. I am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have loved serving others with my whole heart.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because it makes me happy. I believe that God loves each of us so much. I feel that love as I serve others, develop my talents, and strive to live a righteous life. I notice the fruits of living a Christ-centered life and invite all to give it a try. I have never been happier in my entire life.

How I live my faith

The New Testament says that pure religion undefiled is to visit the the fatherless and the widows... I also believe it means visiting the sick and the afflicted. I know that when I am in the service of my fellow man, I am only in the service of my God. When I serve and watch out for those around me, I feel my Savior's love and find joy. I also live my faith by making a habit of regular prayer, scripture study, and church attendence. These three simple things provide a secure foundation in an unsteady world. When I dedicate time to know the Lord, he blesses me with revelation and protection from satan.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is the Lord's law of health revealed through a prophet of God. God gives laws because they bless his children and keep them from harm. The word of wisdom prohibits the use of coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, and illegal substances. I have really come to appreciate this guidance because it helps me save money and I know that I can get up in the morning and not rely on coffee or tobacco to function. Living the word of Wisdom helps me know that God still calls prophets. Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Many people are afraid of what they dont understand. The definition of the word cult is: a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies. By definition, any religion is a cult. As for it's negative connotation, many of my friends have been pleasantly surprised to find LDS services a peaceful and friendly way to worship the Savior Jesus Christ. I invite any who feel that the Mormon faith is a cult to visit us and to learn for themselves, so that fear will not drive them to continue this negative rumor. Show more Show less
