Hi I'm Laurie

I live in the Pacific Northwest, I have a wonderful family, I love where I live, I love my life, I am happy and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love my family, I love being a wife and a mom. And, I really love being a "Grammy." I have five wonderful children, 2 girls and 3 boys. They are all married to wonderful people that are now just like children to me as well. I have 13 beautiful, and amazing grandchildren that I adore. We love being together as much as possible. One thing we all love is hiking. We hike the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, and everything in between. My husband and I have been called to serve a "Church Education" mission in Montreal Canada. And we are thrilled! We are trying to learn some French before we get there and will continue to learn it after we arrive. We feel very blessed, honored, and humbled to be asked to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the young adults in Montreal. Many friends and family have asked me how I can possibly leave my children, and grandchildren for two whole years to serve a mission. My answer to them is that my faith tells me, that they will be blessed beyond anything I can possibly imagine because I am serving. The real question is: "How can I NOT serve a mission?" I serve this mission for them, and because of them, this is my gift to my family!

Why I am a Mormon

I have lived long enough to know that the only way to be happy, truly happy in my life is to live the teachings of the Savior, to keep His commandments and live true to the covenants I have made as a member of His true church. I know that everything good, everything happy, beautiful and full of light comes from our Heavenly Father who loves us so much. He has given us every way to come and learn of Him and be happy. I am grateful for that knowledge, I feel His love and I know that He is near. I hope I can show my love for Him by living His teachings and taking upon myself the name of His Only Begotten Son, even Jesus Christ, and living the best life I can with love and honesty before Him. My husband and I really look forward to serving missions and sharing the truth that we have found with others. It is life changing to realize that we are children of God, and that He cares for us, and loves us so much and is actually very concerned about our lives. We feel honored to be able to share this truth with others. I have felt the peace, love and forgiveness that God has for all of His children, because of the great sacrifice of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ. As we deal with all the pain that this life may present, we can turn to Christ and find peace, healing and love. I have found it and so can we all.

How I live my faith

I love serving in the church and I have had many opportunities to learn and grow as a result. I have taught an early morning religion class in our community that begins at 6:20 a.m. and ends at 7:10 a.m. each school day for high school age youth. I felt honored to teach a class like that, I loved starting my day that way. I always felt that if those kids could wake up and be in that class that early in the morning, then I would promise them, the Lord and myself that I would always be prepared and never waste their time! What a blessing it was for me, as I am sure I learned more in those years than the students ever did! Currently my husband and I are in charge of planning a youth conference for teens age 14 to 18, in our region. It will be a four day three night conference for kids in our region, (about 275 kids total!) We are going out into a National Park at a point on the old Oregon Trail and we are re-enacting a pioneer handcart trek. Our youth will be divided into families with a "Ma and a Pa" and siblings they may have never met before and spend the next 4 days trekking with a handcart and learning what it might have been like for the pioneers. This is a part of our church history, and we look forward to helping the youth learn of this great legacy of faith and devotion to God! It is a remarkable experience for all of us involved in this conference as we feel the hand of the Lord directing us!
