Hi I'm David and Jean

We have been Mormons all of our lives. We've been happily married 41 years and have 7 children and 27 grandchildren.

About Me

David is a retired university professor and Jean has been a stay-at-home mom and wouldn't have had it any other way. David served a mission for the LDS church in Switzerland as a young man and as a retired couple, we have served a Church and Family History Mission in Salt Lake City. We also currently officiate in one of our church's temples. We love spending time with our children and grandchildren. Jean suffers some paralysis from a stroke several years ago but still enjoys reading, cooking and IPADing. David loves to garden, listen to his IPOD, read and play racquetball.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though David was a very active member of the church during his youth, his conversion became complete while serving a mission in Switzerland. As we met and courted, we saw in each other a love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and devotion to its principles. We have used those principles including Family Home Evening, Family Scripture Study and Family Prayer as a framework for raising our children. They have given our family direction, strength and hope.

How I live my faith

We attend our church services each Sunday and teach a class for young couples on Marriage and Parenting skills. David serves in the Boy Scout program which is an important part of the youth activities for boys. We regularly visit 4 widows in our congregation and make sure that their needs are met. We still enjoy having Family Home Evening and scripture study together even though we are empy-nesters.

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

David and Jean
The document "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" published by the LDS Church in 1995 explains the importance of the family and the roles and responsibilities of fathers and mothers. "Fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children." We have found these principles to be a valuable guide for our family through the years. Show more Show less

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

David and Jean
Our prophet and President of the Church is Thomas S. Monson. His biography was recently published under the title of "To The Rescue" by Heidi Swinton. We know that he is a prophet for our day who receives revelation from the Lord for our time just as Abraham, Moses, etc. did in ancient times. We know that he speaks the truth and have enjoyed great blessings in following his counsel. We also have 12 Apostles as did Christ when He organized his church upon the earth. They are special witnesses for Christ and travel the earth bearing testimony and overseeing the Lord's work. Show more Show less
