Hi I'm Barbara

I'm a Mormon. I'm a museum docent and 'talking head' for the arts. I speak four languages.

About Me

I'm an artist, a mother of nine, and a lover of the Humanities. I'm a docent at the two museums in Dallas. I play on two tennis teams, live with my soulmate, Mr. Bill, and two animals, Carmen the Black Lab and Pixie Jean the Stripey Cat. I speak Spanish, French and Italian and love to travel. I am not repressed. I hold a Masters degree in Liberal Arts, focusing on art history and medieval studies. My children have married fascinating people who bring a rich variety of cultures to our family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a 6th-generation member of the Church married to a convert. I find peace and harmony in the teachings of the Church. My faith is a bulwark against the harshness of life. It feels right. I'm intellectually curious and love the doctrines of the Mormon Church. I'm a true believer, not because I was born into the Church, but because I love truth. And I believe the doctrines are true.

How I live my faith

In our congregations, we have callings to build one another up and create a supportive church environment for our fellow followers of Christ. My current calling is to oversee the Sunday religious instruction of all the children from the ages of 18 months up to 12 years. It keeps me busy, but I love working with the children! We have a rollicking good time spent in enthusiastic singing, a quieter, more disciplined time spent in spiritual classroom instruction and study of the scriptures, and lots and lots of personal attention for each child. I love the way our church keeps its congregations small so more people have a chance to get involved in serving one another. We don't just show up on Sundays and listen to someone give a sermon. WE give the sermons by assignment from the local leaders. I try to live my faith by making sure that I do three things every day: pray in earnest to my Heavenly Father, study the teachings of Jesus, and follow those teachings by implementing what I learn as I interact with people and as I choose how to spend my time each precious. Pray, Learn and Follow. Every Day. That's my goal. And I'm teaching that to the children under my care.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe that God is our Father. My husband taught our children that when they knelt down to pray, they should imagine that they were laying their heads on the lap of their Father in Heaven, who loved them more than they could imagine, and pour out their hearts to Him. What a lovely image. We believe God is a real person, not just a Force; He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and more than anything, all-loving! We can safely submit to Him, as his entire work and glory is to help us to attain Eternal Life. I trust Him, and love Him, and am grateful He was willing to sacrifice His Son, Jesus Christ, so that my sins can be forgiven if I will repent of them. What a wonderful, comforting blessing that is.
