Hi I'm Ben

I'm a student. I'm a teacher. I'm a father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a graduate student studying mathematics. To support my family, I teach as a graduate teaching fellow at the university where I study and as an adjunct at the local community college. I have a wife and three children all under 5. I struggle to keep life balanced between work, school, and family demands.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a Mormon. I came to know the Book of Mormon was true in college. I was taking a class about the Book of Mormon. One of our assignments was to study it every night. As I read the witnesses of the Savior in the Book of Mormon, I came to feel how much the Savior loved me. I better understood what He had done for me and how He wanted me to live.

How I live my faith

I study the scriptures and pray daily. I find it is very important for me to maintain my connection to the Lord in this way. I serve as a leader over some of the men in my congregation and strive to minister to them and help them increase their faith. I find great joy in teaching my children with my wife to love the Lord and keep his commandments. I teach them to pray and keep trying to teach them to be reverent during prayers. We read to them from the scriptures and teach them what the Lord wants from them.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

One of the most powerful evidences of God's existence to me is the account of witnesses that God lives. The Bible is an ancient record that includes these eyewitness accounts. Moses spoke with God "face to face" (Exodus 33:11); Isaiah saw God sitting on his throne (Isaiah chapter 6); Stephen saw Jesus (after Jesus' death) on the right hand of God (Acts 7:55). These are just some of these accounts. The Book of Mormon provides additional witnesses to God's existence. One prophet, when confronted with the arguement that there was no God, testified, "the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator" (Alma 30:44). Further, we have more modern witnesses. The Three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon heard the voice of God as they were shown the gold plates by an angel. Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith had other experiences seeing the Resurrected Jesus Christ, and these experiences were shared by others (see Doctrine and Covenants sections 76 and 110). To this wealth of human witnesses, I can add a simple witness: I know that God has answered my prayers. I've had definite witnesses of my own that God hears my prayers and that he cares about me.
