Hi I'm Jacob

I grew up in Idaho. I am going to school in Indiana. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am going to college. I am studying engineering. I love playing sports, reading books, and being with friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I always felt that what I was being taught was true, but as a teenager and young adult I started to have my doubts. Personal experience already taught me that Jesus was living and my Savior, but was the Church true? I read the Book of Mormon trying to find out if it was true, if the Church is of God, and if Joseph Smith was a prophet. Through reading and prayer I came to realize that what I was taught is truth and of God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by reading the scriptures, going to Church, trying to pray meaningfully, working to be kind to those that offend me, and helping a friend overcome addiction issues. I love helping others. I also serve in my local Church by planning activities so people have fun, build testimonies, and build unity.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Jacob
Mormon women are kind and care for each other. They often serve people in their communities in quiet ways. Mormon women are just as important as men. I know. I have five sisters whom I love and respect. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Jacob
The Church as a wonderful website dedicated to helping people with pornography addictions. The Church also has the Addiction Recovery Program, which helps people overcome any kind of addiction including pornography. There is one of these groups that meet in my town every week. The leaders of the Church (both global and local) teach and preach against the evils of pornography. I went to visit a member of the Church one day and he had a friend over at his house. This friend said that pornography and masturbation were good things and should be fostered. I immediately told him that they are horribly damaging to the soul. This friend later became a member of the Church. Show more Show less

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Jacob
It goes towards helping the missionary efforts (missionaries themselves do not receive compensation), constructing and maintaining church buildings (temples, church houses, etc.), and Sunday lesson materials. We have a lay ministry, in other words as members we do not receive compensation for the service we give to build up the kingdom of God. We service as bishops, teachers, young men / women leaders, and in a variety of other callings because of our love for God and our fellow men and we know the Church is led by Heavenly Father through inspired lay ministers. What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Jacob
Nature tells me that God lives and created this world. My wonderful family is evidence to me of God. The answers to prayers tell me He lives. The comfort, strength, direction, and feelings of peace I receive while going through tough times tell me that God lives. If you have the desire to believe, just go off that desire and He will help along the way. It took me years to recognize Him in my life. The easiest way for me is through things I love, namely beautiful days and wonderful family relationships. Show more Show less

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Jacob
Temples are used to perform holy ordinances for ourselves and ancestors. Like Paul the Apostle said in 1 Corinthians 15:29 when he was talking about the resurrection made possible by Christ, "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" We baptize for the dead because God's mercy allows those that did not have the opportunity to get baptized in this life to accept a baptism perform in their behalf. Show more Show less
