Hi I'm Maria

I'm a wife, a mother, a friend, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm originally from England. I first came to the U.S. when I was 8 years old. After a brief return to England at the age of 12, I was able to return to the U.S. and I have lived here ever since. I became a citizen in 1988. I joined the U.S. Air Force when I was 18 which is how I met my husband. We have been blessed with 5 wonderful children who are my joy. I decided to separate from the military prior to the birth of my second child so that I could be home. Despite some tough times, being a stay-at-home mother was a decision I have never regretted. I have always loved being with my children. As my children got older I made the decision to go back to school with the goal of obtaining my teaching degree, I'm still working on accomplishing that goal. My hobbies/interests include spending time with my family, going to football games, hiking, camping, fishing, crocheting, and reading. I love listening to music and watching movies. I don't have any musical talents but would love to learn to play the piano someday-another goal I hope to accomplish.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because of my belief that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that it is another testament of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a companion to the Holy Bible. Through this precious volume of scripture, we have the promise that we will get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book. It truly is the keystone of our religion. I love the Book of Mormon and I know that it is true. I'm a Mormon because of my belief that we have a living prophet on the earth today. Thomas S. Monson is our prophet that we look to at this time. I also have a firm testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith. It was through him that the true gospel of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth. Just knowing and truly believing that has brought me so much joy and peace in my life. I'm a Mormon because of my belief in eternal families. This is a promised blessing that comes because of the sealing ordinances that are performed in our temples around the world. Why would a loving Heavenly Father allow us to be in families that we love and cherish here on earth only to have that end when our lives here are over. I know that He loves us so much and He wants us to be happy and have joy, not only here but throughout the eternities. As we do our part to keep the commandments and the covenants that we make, we are assured great blessings hereafter which includes being with our loved ones forever. Families truly can be together forever! I'm a Mormon because of my belief in Jesus Christ and His Atoning sacrifice on my behalf. Words cannot express my love for Him. He is the foundation of our faith. I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by my efforts with daily prayer and scripture reading. This is a fundamental need for my spiritual growth. Without doing these two simple tasks each day, I find that I'm stagnate. This is where I gain my strength, happiness, and peace each day. I live my faith by accepting opportunities to serve in our church. Over the years I've had the opportunity to teach children as young as 18 months to working with teenagers, teaching adult women and even serving with the scouts. Often times when certain responsibilities are asked of us, we might feel inadequate and even unqualified. But as long as we put our trust in the Lord to help us, He will qualify us to do the work He has asked us to do. It is through service in the church that I have gained great strength to my testimony. We are commanded that we are to be found with charity and the Lord provides the way for us through being able to serve. As we serve one another, we learn to love one another. This has been a great blessing in my life.
