Hi I'm Laurel

I'm a reader and a writer. I grew up in California. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a graduate student working on a masters of library and information science. I love sports--I play a bit of basketball, softball, volleyball and soccer. I love music and play the piano and the guitar and sing. I read lots of books. I always seem to be reading, whether on a bus, as I walk, wherever. If you recommend me a book, I will always give it a chance. I love writing too. I write stories and blog for my friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I have felt that this is the right place for me. I grew up as a Mormon, but when I left home to go to school, I had to decide for myself. Sure, it's not always easy to be a Mormon. My trials don't go away, but I've learned how to handle them better. Through the gospel, I've learned not only how to love but how to express love more in depth and through deeds and words. Because that's really what the gospel is about--love. God loved us so he sent his son. His Son loved us enough to die for us that we might live again. And if we love God and His Son, Jesus Christ, we are told to keep their commandments.

How I live my faith

All of the people who attend my ward are single and so we work together to have fun and enjoy this time when we don't have families. I work with the women in my ward, specifically, to help them to realize their potential. So many of them are coming straight from home and have no idea of the possibilities before them. And I get to help them by planning activities and visiting with each one as often as I can. It's a big job. I don't have a lot of free time anymore. But I love it.
