Hi I'm Claire

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in West Virginia. Growing up, I secretly wanted to be a Mommy more than anything else.

About Me

I'm a wife, Mommy, Mormon, musician, fitness freak, foodie, and political activist. I studied French Horn Performance at college, and discovered fitness after failing to lose the "baby weight" from my first little bebopper. Now I have 3 beboppin' boys and love both food and exercise more than ever. I believe our wonderful nation was founded on liberty, by divine inspiration, and that it takes active effort to make sure those liberties are safeguarded. I play French Horn in a local orchestra in my "free" time.

Why I am a Mormon

This is the true gospel of Jesus Christ, restored to the earth. I know the Bible is the word of God. I know Jesus walked this earth, and I strive each day to be more like him. I know the Book of Mormon teaches us the fullness of His gospel. It is an account of the people in the Americas! I find it amazing that we have this incredibly full record from Ancient America that isn't well accepted, perhaps because it is "religious". Knowing this is the true gospel of Jesus Christ gives me strength to try harder to be my best. It gives me hope to be able to live with my famiy again, after we have died. I love the peace this gospel brings. I know this because I've tested the teachings of this gospel. I've planted it in my heart, like a seed, and it grew within me into a tree that has given me more joy and knowledge than anything else I've ever planted in my heart.

How I live my faith

I'm a member of the Orchestra at Temple Square. We play alongside the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It is an honor and a privilege. I serve there, unpaid, in an effort to show my gratitude to God for all He has given me. Nothing I give Him can repay my debt to him, but I try, anyway. I hope He will be pleased with me. More importantly, I strive to be a loving wife and mother. It's hard!

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

We go to church each Sunday to partake of the sacrament. When we do this, we renew the promises we made with Heavenly Father when we were baptized. Anyone is more than welcome to come to our Sunday church meetings with us. If you have not made those promises with God, you might not want to take the sacrament, but noone is going to run up to you and grab it out of your hand, if you do! The temple is different from church. It is a sacred building, dedicated to giving us the saving ordinances that will enable us to be with God again after we die. We receive those saving ordinances only once, but I go back to the temple over and over to receive those ordinances on behalf of people who have already died. It is a beautiful place, full of the spirit of God. The ordinances received there are sacred, so we don't really talk about them. But, they're not secret. Anyone who is baptized by proper authority and lives the commandments can go to the temple and receive those ordinances. Show more Show less
