Hi I'm Devin

I grew up in California. I am about to start my third year of law school at the University of Tennessee. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently living in Knoxville, TN with my wife and two cats where I attend law school at the University of Tennessee. I love playing music (I play the upright and electric bass) and studying history.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in truth. Truth is absolute, eternal, and most importantly, from God. In essence, God is truth. By knowing truth we know God. By knowing God our relationship with Him increases, and thereby we receive more happiness and direction in our lives. For me, the Lord has revealed His truth to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Now, just because he revealed his Truth to the Church does not mean that we have always understood it or lived by it, but that is because we are all fallible (aren't we all sinners?). But the truth as taught in the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Doctrine & Covenants is the Gospel in its purest form. The truth as revealed in these scriptures is that to gain the most happiness in this life, to gain the closest relationship with God, we are to have faith in Jesus Christ (believe in him), repent of our sins (realign our thoughts and actions to be more like Christ), get baptized (wash away our sins so that we can start a new life as a disciple of Jesus Christ), receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (God gives us this gift through the grace of Christ to live as a disciple of Christ), and endure to the end (continue to build our relationship with God by living the commandments that Christ set out for us). Is it easy? Not really, but that is why Christ died and rose again for us. His grace lifts us up every moment of every day to help us return and live with God again. It is only through the grace of Christ that we are able to even make it through this life and live with God. In essence, I am a Mormon because I want to build my relationship with the Savior and my Heavenly Father. I am a Mormon so that I may know how to more fully access the Grace of Jesus Christ every day to help sustain and life me up. The truth as taught in the LDS faith helps me know how I can do so.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by visiting families every month to make sure that their temporal and spiritual needs are met. I also assist the bishop over my congregation to make sure that he is helping the families that he oversees and catering to their needs as well. The gospel of Jesus Christ is about service, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a vessel to help me serve my fellow man. Outside of what I do in the LDS Church, the Gospel has been my motivation to serve in my community. The law school that I attend provides pro bono (free) legal services to those who cannot afford any. While I am not an attorney yet, I do strive to provide my time and serve those in need. Most importantly, I try to live my faith by being a worthy husband (and someday father) to my family. The gospel has taught me that when it comes to family, my needs are put last. To make my marriage last I need to serve my wife. I do this by cooking dinner, doing the laundry, cleaning the house, etc. so that my wife can have a break. Now these are only a few examples, but the gospel has taught me that serving my family brings God into our home.
