Hi I'm Rick Busath

I am a father, husband, grandfather, school teaching, practicing Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Northern California and have lived here practically my whole life with the exception of two years spent in Germany where I served a mission for the church and part of my college career I spent in Provo, Utah attending BYU. I graduated from college with a BA in Psychology and then received my credential to teach elementary school. Later I received a MA degree in Educational Technology. I have taught elementary school for 31 years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a wonderful wife. I am a father of five children and a grandpa of one sweet little girl and a brand new little boy.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I grew up in the church, I had to find out for myself if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the true church. Shortly after I turned 20, I was reading In 3rd Nephi in the Book of Mormon about the account of Christ's appearance to the Nephites in America after his crucifixion. As I read, a powerful witness came to me of the divinity of Jesus Christ and the love that he has for all mankind. At that time, I also received a witness of the spirit that the Book of Mormon was true and if the Book of Mormon was true, then the Prophet Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. The Church was true. This and other experiences with the scriptures and the words of modern day prophets, has strengthened my testimony and increased my love of the Savior.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to love all mankind. I try to be of service to my family, my friends and those that are in need. One of my responsibilities as a priesthood holder, is that of Home Teaching. I have the assignment of visiting three families each month. When I visit with them, I see after their well being and leave a gospel message with them. I also check in with them during the month as the spirit directs. I also try to give my employer an honest days work for the pay that he gives me and to be honest in all my dealings with others. I am a work in progress in all of these areas.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Rick Busath
That would be a resounding no. From the effects of Katrina to the earthquake in Haiti and most recently the devastation in Japan, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been one of the first responders bringing aid to any region that requires it. We also support the Red Cross and the Catholic Relief Fund. Deseret Industries, sometimes known as DI, is both a nonprofit vocational rehabilitation facility and a thrift store much like Goodwill Industries. People from every walk of life are welcome to come and be trained in one of the 46 stores. We have people called to assist those seeking employment whether they are members or not.   Show more Show less

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Rick Busath
When we learn of Jesus Christ and feel his love for us, we are more likely to love and serve those closest to us as we try to emulate the love Jesus has for us. His life was one of love, service and sacrifice for our eternal happiness. As we begin to understand this, we desire to put the needs of those closest to us above our own needs. This strengthens our relationships with our spouses, children and friends.   Show more Show less
