Hi I'm Alan

I'm an Army veteran, husband, father of four and a soon-to-be speech-language pathologist . I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a devoted husband and a father of four very active children. I'm currently in my clinical fellowship year, the last step before becoming a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. I enjoy working with people, especially children, in helping them improve their quality of life. I am a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and have served seven-plus years with the Arizona Army National Guard. I love to be physically active and enjoy just about any sport or outdoor activity including basketball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, camping, hiking, hunting, etc. My hobbies include landscaping, gardening, raising animals, being be a handyman, and most of all spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon today because I know for myself. When I was only 15 years old, my world was turned upside down with my mom's untimely death from cancer. I had been taught at home and at church that families can be together forever. I had to know if that was really true. I had to know if I really would be able to be with my mother again. To put what I had been taught to the test, I prayed to know if the Book of Mormon was true. I didn't get an answer the first time I prayed. It came the second time but not quite in the way I had expected. Instead it came as a very warm and peaceful feeling; one that I could not deny. From there I knew that Joseph Smith was indeed a true prophet called of God to restore the Church of Jesus Christ in its fullness back to the earth. I therefore knew that the power to seal and bind families together forever was again on the earth; that same power that Peter had been given by Christ before He was crucified. What peace and joy I felt. I vowed from then on to align my life more fully with the teachings of Jesus and keep myself clean and worthy so that I could one day be with my mother again.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be a good a husband and father and by loving and serving others. I am currently serving in the church as an Adult Sunday School teacher. Every other week I prepare for and teach a lesson from the book of scriptures we are studying for the year. Last year we studied the Old Testament in the Bible. This year we are studying the Book of Mormon. I said I teach the lesson, but it's more like I just lead the class discussion. We all teach each other by sharing personal experiences, thoughts, feelings, insights, and passages that have touched our lives. Like most men in the church I am also a hometeacher. As a hometeacher I make visits to the home of 2-4 families each month to share a spiritually uplifting message and pray with them and see that their needs are taken care of.
