Hi I'm Darlene

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am now in my "Golden Years" (79) and they are pretty golden except for some aches and pains here and there. I am grateful each morning that I can get out of bed and move about for another day. Our Father in Heaven has given us a beautiful world to enjoy. I was happy in my growing up years with laughter and fun in my home - two brothers that were fun to be with - one older and one younger - me being the middle child and only girl. Loved school and the many friends I made there. Took dancing lessons while young and loved being on the stage and performing - so I then went on to give readings and stand up comedy on programs most of my adult life. Also loved to sing and have been in choirs since I was 15. Took piano lessons and can play enough for my enjoyment. Could do better if I practiced more. Married my high school sweetheart the month before I turned 21. I didn't go on to college - felt it more important for him to get his education so I worked and kept the house and children while he completed his schooling.. We were blessed with 4 children - three girls and one boy. They have brought so much joy - wish we could have even had more. Now blessed with 7 grandchildren and so far 5 great grandchildren. Have worked as a realtor, appraisor, secretary, accountant, treasurer, morning radio show and TV talk show host (short time) and even at a Funeral Home and cemetary. Great variety in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon all of my life - being born of "goodly parents" and being taught by them through my early years. Growing up through the programs of Primary, Mutual (Young Women ) Relief Society, I learned line upon line from faithful teachers and leaders who shared their testimony of the gospel until I was strong enough to have one of my own. Mormon's are taught to lead a good clean life in word and in deed, to be honest and kind with their fellowmen. Those teachings, as I have strived to live them, have brought me joy and happiness. The leader and founder of our church is Jesus Christ, the son of our Father in Heaven and the only truly perfect man to ever live on the earth. If we try to be like Him in every way we can never go wrong and will find true happiness in this life and in the life to come. The joy I am looking forward to is being with my family eternally - that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I strive each day to live my faith by following the path that Jesus set. You can never go wrong being kind and loving. Being human I fall short many times, but get up and try harder each time. I have had many "callings" through my many years in the church - starting when I was as young as 13 years old - working with the young children in Jr. Sunday School to my last calling working with the older women in the Stake. I have taught many classes and in so doing have learned as much or more then I have taught. I have worked with the youth for over 50 years - helping with drama, writing and producing roadshows, and other productions. I have helped them learn skills that will help them in their homes - sewing, cooking, housekeeping. I have loved books and reading and have tried to pass that love on. My husband and I have served several missions, where we have lived out of the country and helped in developing countries. We helped bring life giving water to villages in Africa, taught keyboard skills, distributed food and clothes, and helped build churches and temples. I have always been a visiting teacher and take that calling seriously - making sure I contact and try to help when needed any sisters I have been assigned to visit, That has so enriched my life, through my association with other sisters in all walks of life. I have been active in politics and have run for public office.
