Hi I'm Austin Kim

I grew up in California. I'm a student, a missionary, a Korean American, and a friend. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Korean American living in the States, currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I graduated with a BA in Physiology and Neuroscience, intending to go to grad school in the neurosciences after my service. My parents were born and raised in Korea. I like to play piano, hang out with friends, surf, eat out, and play sports.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by LDS parents, and attended church until I was 17, by which time I lost my faith in the LDS church, as well as in Christianity as a whole. My reasons varied from spiritual to philosophical, logical and intellectual. I studied some other faiths, and ultimately came to the conclusion that there is no God, and spent years promoting this belief. I met with LDS missionaries in college, and they explained to me the power of prayer, and how I could know the truth of spiritual things through diligent study as well as through asking in faith. I argued at first, but eventually tried the challenge that they gave me. I was able to not only develop a testimony of a loving Heavenly Father and in his son Jesus Christ, but I learned for myself that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. This knowledge was miraculous and life changing for me, and I have ever since been striving to serve all those that stand in any kind of need, finding joy in the service of my fellow men and women.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ the best I can. This involves serving and helping others in their temporal, social, emotional, physical, or spiritual needs. I worship God by being obedient to the teachings of his son Jesus Christ. In this, one can find great joy, by being in the service of others.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Austin Kim
There are many reasons for our purpose here in life, but one of the greatest goals we have here to accomplish is one of growth. We are blessed with a body, so we can have certain life experiences and learning that would not otherwise be possible without one. An additional blessing from having bodies is having families, so we can know of and enjoy many of the same experiences that our Heavenly Father feels in having us as children, as we can have our own. We are given the ability to make all our own choices, even when they are destructive for our own well being, but the spirit of God will try to influence us to do good. Through Gods plan, we can live with our families for time and all eternity, and dwell in the presence of God. This comes through faith in Jesus Christ, and following him not only through our words but by our hearts. Show more Show less
