Hi I'm Jon Thomas

I'm a Software Engineer for an aerospace/defense contractor, father of 5, and grandfather of 9. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a software engineer for an aerospace/defense company, father of 5, grandfather of 9. Happily married for 38 1/2 years. After working hard at my career, I like working in the yard, helping family & neighbors, watching some TV, and working on my home computers. My dad was a train buff and model railroad builder, and I inherited some of that.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother grew up as a Lutheran in southwestern Wisconsin. To avoid asthma, she wanted to attend college in a high-altitude state. She had relatives in Denver CO and Provo UT. She chose BYU for some reason, and was converted by her junior year. I am the oldest of 6, and we were raised in the church where return missionaries gave great talks that overwhelmed me with the spirit. Our chapel was very old, in which we could feel the dedication of the pioneer spirit. I served a mission in the Philippines where my testimony of the great work of this church was even more solidified.

How I live my faith

I have always loved serving in this church -- it challenges me & keeps strengthening my testimony. My favorite calling was ward membership clerk when we first moved to our current house 35 1/2 years ago. Since then I've had many leadership callings -- each one lasts for anywhere from 3 years to 5 years, where I feel I have contributed something to build-up our community. I was recently released as ward mission leader, after 5 years, am now serving as Ward Employment Specialist. I have two missionaries (19-21 year-old Elders) living in my basement. What a joy, with many blessings attending for me and my family.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Jon Thomas
I am excited that the richest man in the Universe -- my Heavenly Father -- wants to be a part of my financial well-being. I consider it an honor that he wants to partner with me in my finances, not just the spiritual. Obedience to this law brings peace of mind that my family will be protected and blessed, which they have. All 5 of my children own their own home (except my MBA/attorney son-in-law who is interning).
