Hi I'm Joseph Tibbals

I grew up in a small town, didn't have much religion in our home. But thanks to two life saving missionaries, I'm now a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of four, and have been married to the same woman now for 8 years. Recently I have just changed jobs to a technician for a satellite company and relocated to a new state. In my spare time I enjoy being with my family doing anything we can find to do together. We do enjoy the mountains, fishing, and hopefully again soon some camping. My boys have just started martial arts, and are enjoying the experience. I used to be active in martial arts earning a Sandan rank of Black Belt in Shorin Ryu until I injured my spine in a work related accident. I do still like to pratice some, but find many moves hard to perform without discomfort. Due to this injury, I also had to give up another favorite hobby of waterskiing.

Why I am a Mormon

I was on a path of destruction, filled with alcohol and misery. Being in this state for years, and never really seeing any other way, I was lost. I had some spiritual beliefs, but never really committed to the lord. One day two missionaries rode their bicycles to my house looking for my neighbors, I gave them directions and one gave me a card before he left. Before I would just accept the offer and discard whatever was given or spoken to me after they left. But this time I felt different, so I just placed the card with the picture of Jesus and a contact number for the LDS church in my pocket. Later that night, the encounter was all I could think about. So I visited the LDS website and requested for a missionary to visit with. I couldn't shake the feeling that this is what I needed to do. Soon I began to meet with the missionaries I gave directions to, and began to read the scriptures. The more I learned, the stronger my feeling became. I learned later this was the Holy Spirit guiding me to the correct path. After being Baptized and continuing my learning, I realized I was no longer lost. I had the love of Heavenly Father with me, finally overcoming alcoholism and depression before it destroyed me. Without the church and the relationship I now have with Jesus and our Heavenly Father, I would not have made it out of the terrible hole I had sunk into. I know now with all my heart that this is the path to be on, and wouldn't want it any other way. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I try to read the scriptures as much as I can, and live a good life. Treating everyone I meet the best way I can. We recently moved, so I have not yet had any callings in my new ward. My previous ward I received a calling for teaching a youth class. Although it was only a short few months before we moved, it was a wonderful experience and a blessing.
