Hi I'm Joseph Hansen

I'm a student, soccer player, and Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Great Falls, Montana, to two parents in the Air Force. We moved around a bit. I say I'm from Columbia, Maryland. I have 4 younger brothers and 3 little half-sisters. I'm a college student at Brigham Young University studying computer science. I love learning economics and political science. I'm working as a web designer and playing intramural soccer. I enjoy good weather, restaurants, music, social gatherings, reading the news, and competitions.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I like to help. I've always thought that there is a best way to do things and that it's worth it. I'm a Mormon because I feel the Holy Ghost guiding me as I try to do things the right way and this church is where I should be. I can tell that listening to that little voice brings me closer to God, my family, and my friends. I ask a lot of questions, and I expect a lot of answers. This church is one where everyone encourages me to ask questions, get answers, and share with others.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through loving good things. I love to read. I love to be nice and smart and good. I read books, like the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon that inspire me to be good and to love God and everyone else. I live my faith by praying often and by respecting the things God does for us. I show gratitude for His plan for us and His hard work by doing my little part.

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Joseph Hansen
The Mormon prophet is called of God. As they try to get guidance from God, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, searches, ponders, prays, and receives promptings to know who to call. After the call, all church members are allowed to give him a sustaining vote. In the Old Testament it says: "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." God calls prophets to serve his church and to tell the church members what God wants to tell them as a group. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Joseph Hansen
Reading scripture gives us strength: it helps us understand who we are and who God is; it helps us have the courage to do what we know we should; it gives us perspective in the ups and downs of life; it fills us with gratitude as we see God's love for us; and, it teaches us how to overcome a mundane life. As we do all of those things, our faith and love increases, and we can have a personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Joseph Hansen
Missionaries are sent to serve and share a message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Missionaries are not trained professionals, so sometimes they're a little off, but in their hearts, their goal is to help all people feel a little hope and see God's influence in their lives: missionaries want to be guides to help people get closer to God and live the gospel. Hopefully you'll find their message to be a sweet message about Jesus Christ's Atonement and God's plan for us. They're also a great source of answers about life, this church, the scriptures, etc, and it would be very easy to approach them and ask them a question like that. They'll respect your space and time and try to help. Show more Show less
