Hi I'm Melissa

I'm a wife and a mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently live in Northern California with my family. I am a new mother of a beautiful daughter. I married an aweome man who is perfect for me. We love the outdoors, hiking, biking, running, walks, games, being with friends, ice cream, family, food, trying new things, and serving. Our next goal is to complete a triathlon together. I grew up with a love of nature and being active. I was a competitive swimmer from elementary school until I graduated high school and now I swim for leisure. Though I enjoyed swimming, water polo was my passion. I love being a part of a team and being in the water. After I graduated high school I went to Russia for a water polo competition. In college I played on a club team and I hope to get involved with helping out the local high school water polo team. I gratuated from college with a degree in Recreation Management Youth Leadership and worked for a few years for different cities. Now I spend a lot of time at home with my little one. I love it. I love that it gives me time to teach my daugher, have time to help out friends and family, and continue my education.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are also members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they have taught me since I was young about Jesus Christ and about His church that was restored through Joseph Smith. It always felt right. One day after a lesson at church the teacher had talked about how we can all know for ourselves if the church is true or not. She said that all we needed to do was pray to God and that He would answer our prayers. I thought about this a lot. I wanted to know. I continued to ponder the question and read the scriptures. One night as I knelt in prayer I asked my Heavenly Father if the church was true or not. I felt at peace and God's love for me. I knew. I found out for myself that what I had been taught from my parents and teachers was true. The more that I learn, the more that I serve, and the more that I obey, the more I know that this is God's church on the earth today. It's my source of peace and happiness.

How I live my faith

I am lucky enough to work with the youth in the area. Specifically the young women ages 14-15. We have lessons together every Sunday where we learn our purpose as women and as daughters of God, more about our Savior and His church. Every Wednesday we meet for an hour and a half to have an activity where we put in action what we have learned and to enjoy each others company. It is so great for me to see these beautiful young ladies grow and develop. I have grown to really love them as I see their trials, their struggles, their successes, the lessons that they are learning, and to see them realize their potential.

What is the Law of Chastity?

Melissa
The Law of Chastity is a commandment that centers around the importance of the family, our bodies, and the power to create life. Sexual relations are meant to be between a husband and wife who are legally married. Not only do these relations have the power to create life, sexual relations also help strengthen marriage. By living this commandment children have the blessing to be born into a home with stability and in an enviroment of love and trust. Pornography destroys the sacred relationship between husband and wife and replaces love with lust. Modesty is also important in showing respect toward yourself and those around you. The Law of Chastity is all about love, true love. Every "happily ever after" can be a reality if we live this commandment. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Melissa
I feel like I receive so much guidance when I am reading the scriptures on a daily basis not only from the writings but from the spirit as well. I feel happier, positive, encouraged, motivated by the spirit as to the direction of my day and what I want to be doing with my life. The commandments given in the scriptures are a guidebook to live a happy life and to return to live with God again. I believe that there is strength in knowing what the Lord wants us to do. I feel like I have a stronger marriage and family because of the time we spend reading together. It has knit us together in harmony. Another blessing of reading/studying the scriptures is that I am getting to know my Savior, Jesus Christ, better. As I have learned more about him I feel like I can become a better person by trying to emulate His example. I am especially grateful for the blessing of the Book of Mormon that is another testament of Jesus Christ. I feel so blessed to have more scriptures that teach and testify of the Savior and His teachings. The Book of Mormon has enriched my life. Show more Show less
