Hi I'm Ben Wilson

I'm a husband, a psychology student, a lover of fiction, and i'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Ben. I'm a born and bred Aussie, having grown up in the ever sunny, except when it's not, Queensland. I'm studying Behavioural Science at the Queensland University of Technology and i'm looking forward to a career in Organisational Psychology. That being said my real passions in life are music and writing but the realist in me knows its pretty hard to get far with those professionally unless you're REALLY good, so I just keep those as a hobby. I like to write lyrics, make up musicals and write stories. I love Harry Potter and Doctor Who and a whole stack of other nerdy things that i'm not ashamed of in the least. I was born into the church and it has been an amazing part of my life. I've studied its history and teachings through Seminary and Institute and have searched from many sources, especially prayer to our Heavenly Father, to know and understand more. I had the blessed opportunity to serve a Mission for my church in Adelaide, Australia. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever had the chance to do and I loved every second of it! I was married to my wife in the Brisbane temple and have found so much love and joy as we strive to live our lives focused on Christ and his teachings.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and grew up learning the lessons from the Bible and the Book of Mormon. As time goes by you gain a greater understanding of the principles taught and the lessons of the Savior but there's only so far you can get on the Testimony of others. I've studied the history of the church, both within church classes and from outside sources, and I've come to have a greater understanding of how the world views our church and of the church itself. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of us all. I believe that we have a loving Heavenly Father and that we are all his children. I truly believe that the things I learn at church will help me in the world to come as well as here and now. I know that this happiness and knowledge can bless anyone who hears it and applies it. The Prophet Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus Christ and, under their direction, was the instrument by which the truths of the Gospel were restored. I know the Book of Mormon to be true also. Many have asked, "How do you know?" Understanding the relationship between reason and faith has really helped me. I know that you cannot rely fully on reason and neither can you go by 'blind faith'. Like two wings of an airplane I seek them both to help me through my life. All the researach in the world cannot compare to the still, small voice of the Spirit of God that pierces to the very soul with the power of Heaven.

How I live my faith

Faith is truely a verb. It's when you believe something strong enough to lead you to action. I think that love is the way you show your faith. In 1 John 4:21 it says, "And this comandment have we from him, that he who loveth God love his brother also." We show that in so many ways. I know that the greatest blessing in my life is the Gospel of Jesus Christ so i'm taking my time to share that with others. You can't force it on people but you can always invite. You have to be genuine and kind and patient and all of the wonderful attributes that Christ himself showed us. Being an example and simply respecting the people around you makes the world of difference. I live the principles of the Gospel because I know they are a code for a good life that everyone, Mormon or not, should follow if they want to be prosperous and happy. I've met a lot of people, who are not mormons, who are amazed at some of the things we do. I'd say i'm far from amazing but I do appreciate the things the Church has taught me which help me be successful in life. Things like leadership and public speaking and love for everyone and respect and obedience, just to name a few. Serving as a Missionary has helped me understand my role as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and as a Child of God. I have great love for the work i'm involved in and the people I meet every day.
