Hi I'm Randy Gillespie

I'm an everyday "normal" guy and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy playing sports with my son, spending time with my little girl, gardening, working in the yard and being outside when it's not winter. I received an undergraduate degree in business and a masters degree in public financial administration. I have a satisfying career in the government sector.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the teachings I followed as a young man were instrumental in the happiness I enjoy today. The teachings of the church bring happiness and peace to my life and my home. I continue my activity in the church because I have read the Book of Mormon and have received a witness from the Holy Ghost that it is infact the word of God. Knowing that the Book of Mormon is the word of God also lets me know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that there is a living prophet today. I believe that Joseph Smith saw and talked with God and Jesus Christ, just as Moses did, and that God used this imperfect yet righteous man as an instrument for restoring His full gospel to His children on earth. If ever there is doubt about the reality of a living prophet on the earth today, someone only needs to spend a little time on the LDS website reading and watching the sermons of our latter day prophets. We are continually and constantly encouraged to live our lives to be more like Christ. Anyone who puts forth this effort will surely feel the power of the Lord in their messages and will know they speak the truth and continue to teach everyone how to find peace and lasting happiness.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church each Sunday and by serving my fellow man at each opportunty. I visit other church members regularly to encourage them to keep the commandments and come closer to Christ. I welcome the opportunity to talk about my faith with those that are genuinly interested in knowing what Mormon's believe.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Randy Gillespie
I definetley believe that the bible contains the word of God and that the true teachings of Christ are taught in the Bible. The study of the Bible along with the Book of Mormon provide the full teachings of the gospel of Christ. The Bible is the teachings of the prophets and Christ in the middle east while the Book of Mormon is the teachings of the prophets that were on the American continent and the account of when Christ visited the American continent after his crucifiction and resurrection. Both books are the teachings of true prophets who taught the gospel of Jesus Christ in seperate parts of the world. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Randy Gillespie
I believe that sacred tithes should be used for building up the kngdom of god. I see congregations of other faiths that pay a significant amount of their tithes in salaries to clergy members. Having a lay clergy that donates and sacrafices their time in order to serve God and our fellow church members allows tithing funds to be used for serving others. This practice also allows for everyday members to learn and grow as we share the responsibilty of teaching each other and serving in the church. Show more Show less
