Hi I'm Tom J

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a retired school teacher. I taught high school students social studies. Most of my teaching career I taught U.S. Government, World History and Economics.I.m married 38 years and have 3 chilkdren ages 33, 31,29. I currently serve on my city's civil servicew commission and have served as a city council member. I'm currently working as an adjunct instructor and tutor at the community college near were I live.

Why I am a Mormon

My family joined the church in 1952. I was very young at the time. As a result I grew up being taught the principles of the church. I had many experience as a child, youth and adult that have contribued to the testimony I have today of the truefulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Just a few examples of how my testimony has developed. As a youth my mother's health was failing and she died just before I turned 16. Over the course of the 3 years before my mothers death I witness courtless priesthood blessings that she recieved to either prolong her life or improve the conditions she was living in at the time. At an early age I prayfully read the Book of Mormon and recieved a witness that it was a book written by men of God for us in this day and that it provided me with guildence for my life. I have had many opportunies to serve in the church. As a result I have felt and seen the love of a Heavenly Father for me and his children. There is a peace and a confort that comes, espically at times when life becomes difficult, to know that one has a loving Father in Heaven and that he is mindful of you.

How I live my faith

I have a friend in the church that was called to be the assistance manager at one of the church's food banks. We call it the Bishops' Storehouse. He invited me to come and serve there one day. I recieved so much joy from working there and serving those who are in need of assistance that I have continued to serve two or three days each week for the pass 15 months. I have found that helping others brings great joy to me. In the church we are incourage to seek out our ancestors. I have learn to love who I am and who my people are and were as a result of this activity. As a result of my expeciences in there area I asked my students to reseach their own faimilies. Another of my friends in the church discovered that the cementary records for the town were not user friendly. So at his request we computerized those records for the city and had them placed on a local web page for others to use in their own reseach.
