Hi I'm Joyce

I LOVE being a Mormon! Ü

About Me

I am a retired 1st and 2nd grade school teacher and I am married to a retired Seminary and Institute teacher. We have four children ~ all married ~ and 22 grandchildren who live near us! Ü I LOVE reading good books, watching good movies, singing and playing the piano, teaching piano lessons to my grandchildren, watching their ball games, recitals and concerts, traveling, putting together photo albums and scrapbooks, baking, sewing and doing crafts. I LOVE being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have SO many blessings in my life because of my knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ! Ü My husband and I will be serving in the Uganda Kampala Mission. We enter the MTC on August 5th, 2013! We are SO excited to serve the people there for 18 months!!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a 5th generation Mormon! My ancestors came from England and Ireland and joined the Church in the 1800's. I grew up in the Church, in a VERY active LDS family, but received my own testimony as a result of study and prayer. I had the experience of being in the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York, as a teenager, and had a very spiritual experience as my prayers were answered and I KNEW for SURE that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true! It was confirmed to me, through the Holy Ghost, that Joseph Smith was indeed, a prophet of God and was chosen by God to restore the Lord's Church to the earth, that the Book of Mormon is true and contains the word of God. It is another testament of Jesus Christ. I KNOW that Pres. Thomas S. Monson is a prophet today, who leads and guides this Church through revelation from God. Through many experiences throughout my life, I KNOW that the power of the Priesthood is REAL, that miracles DO happen, that my Heavenly Father LOVES me, that He KNOWS me by name, that he is aware of everything I go through in life and that He wants me to be HAPPY! I know that the only way to TRULY be happy is to obey His commandments, live the gospel of Jesus Christ, and try to become more like Him and like my Father in Heaven, so that I may one day return to live in Their presence. This is the way to have true JOY! I am SO thankful to be a member of the Church. I have been SO blessed because of the gospel in my life. I LOVE it!!

How I live my faith

Being a member of the Church all of my life ~ the Church IS my life! My life revolves around my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and everything I do, every decision I make, centers around my knowledge of the Plan of Salvation ~ The Plan of Happiness ~ why I am here and where I want to be after this life! It is a WONDERFUL way of life. I LOVE my family and KNOW that we are an eternal family because of the blessings of the temple. I know that if we live the commandments and endure to the end, we WILL be together FOREVER! Even though I have had many disappointments and trials in my life, my knowledge of the gospel and membership in the Church has given me peace and assurance that my Heavenly Father LOVES me and knows best what I need in my life to learn and grow. I LOVE serving in my ward. I have always been a visiting teacher in Relief Society and have always sung in the ward choir in every ward I have lived in. I have served in Primary (the organization for children ages 3-12), Relief Society (the organization for the women over 18), Young Women's (the organization for young women ages 12-18), Sunday School, the ward activities committee and as choir director. My husband and I have been called to serve in the Uganda Kampala Mission with a special assignment to be over CES programs in Ethiopia. We will enter the MTC in Provo on August 5th, 2013! I am SO excited to share my testimony and my love for the gospel with the people in Africa!! Ü

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a member of the Mormon Church is WONDERFUL! Ü You know where you came from, why you are here on the earth at this time and where you are going after you die. You know that you are following the Savior and doing as your Father in Heaven would have you do as you are baptized into the true Church of God ~ the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You have access to God's words through all of the holy scriptures ~ the Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants and Pearl of Great Price and the Bible ~ as well as counsel from the Lord's prophet on the earth today, his counselors and twelve apostles. You have a bishop and his counselors who are concerned about your well-being, a ward "family" who is there to help you in any way they can, an opportunity to give service whenever you desire to, great teachers who study hard and teach by the Spirit so you can increase your knowledge of the gospel, and home teachers (for each individual family) and visiting teachers (for each individual woman) who check on you every month to make sure you are doing okay and are willing to help you whenever you need help. You will find that being a Mormon is not just a Sunday thing, but is every day of your life as you live the gospel. You will have opportunities to share your talents and develop more self-confidence and self-worth as the Lord assists you in everything you do as you serve Him in His Church. We have classes for the women during the week and a lot of FUN ward activities too!
