Hi I'm Orin

I enjoy computers, film making, watching movies, sports, family, being outdoors and I am a Mormon

About Me

I am 20 years old, I am the second oldest of 5 children, I have an older brother and 3 younger sisters. I recently returned from my mission in Fresno California where I served the Lord for 2 years. Before my mission I was going to college in Missouri studying theater performance with the intent of going into film production as a career. I had an incredible time at college it was probably the most fun thing I had done up to that point in my life. While on my mission I decided to study Architecture and construction when I get home. I am not sure what I will do with it or where it will lead me in life but it will be in the field of dreaming and making those dreams a reality. I enjoy film making, watching movies and TV, theater, listening to music, board games and video games, baseball, rugby, anything military, building things from scratch, working with tools and large machinery, my scroll saw, designing crazy vehicles and buildings and dreaming of building them, daydreaming, reading a good book, rocks, rock climbing, my family, and just hanging out with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church my dad is a life long member my mom was baptized in her late 20's. I was baptized when I was 8 but I didn't really understand the significance of it until later in my teens. I have received many blessing by living the restored gospel. It was hard being the only Mormon in the theater department but by relying on the Gift of the Holy Ghost that I had received earlier I was able to stay close to the Lord despite the many temptations that surrounded me on every side. I know that the church is true that the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power God and that by living the teachings found therein can bless lives.

How I live my faith

When I was at college I lived my faith every day by setting a good example of the standerd that we live by. I strived to always maintain a high standerd of dress and groom, language and conduct. I try to in my day to day to emulate the life and example of the Savior.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Orin
We increase our faith in Jesus Christ by coming to know him better. WE study the teachings of his prophets in the Old Testament and the words that he gave us during his brief stay on the Earth, and of his Apostles. But man can tell you anything which may or may not be true. Therefore our invitation to the world is not to take our word for it but to ask God in humble prayer. God promises us that if we ask he will answer. As our prayers are answered we draw closer to the Savior, come to know him better and our faith grows. Faith is like a seed that must be planted, cared for, and nurished before it will grow. We can not just expect things to come to us we have to put forth an honest effort and God will provide. How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Orin
Faith in Jesus Christ blesses us in our marriage relationships by giving us a sure foundation to stand on. Marriage is like a triangle with the husband and wife on the bottom two points and Christ on the top. As a husband and wife draw closer to the Savior they draw closer together. When we make God a priority in our lives and in our marriage then it forms that perfect triangle. The Triangle is one of the strongest shapes known to man because all stress and force is distributed evenly over the entire shape. It is the same way with marriage. We can do anything with God on our side. If we are close to God then no amount of pressure, stain, worry, or pain can harm that marriatal bond. I am not married yet but I have seen this in my parents marriage. Faith in Jesus Christ can and does strenthen us in any situation. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

Orin
When Christ was here on the Earth he set up his church and gave his Apostles the priesthood which is the power and authority from God to act in his name. Christ told Peter that the Priesthood had the power to bind things not only on Earth but also in the heavens. With the death of the apostles the priesthood was lost from the Earth because of wickedness. That same Priesthood power that Christ gave to the Apostles has been restored to the Earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Baptism is an ordinance that is performed by the power of the priesthood. Not only performed but validated in the eyes of God. We baptize new members because baptism by proper authority is a requirement to enter the kingdom of heaven. You may have been baptized before some may have been baptized many times. Being baptized in to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is not saying that your past baptisms are not valid but that they were not complete. We offer the chance for all to get baptized by the Priesthood authority of God, thus completing the ordinance that is the first step to following in the Savior's footsteps to return to live with our Father in Heaven again some day. What is the Church’s position on abortion?

Orin
Everyone of us before we ever came to this mortal existance on Earth lived with our Father in Heaven as spiritual children. Each of us chose to come here to Earth and receive a body that we might be able to grow and progress through mortal experiences. We, here on Earth have been entrusted by our Father in Heaven with the power to create life. This is the ability to create bodies for our spiritual brothers and sisters. Our Father in Heaven hold this power in the highest regard. Mortal life is the reason that we come to Earth. Our Heavenly Father is sad when we dabble and take lightly that sacred responsibility he has entrusted to us. Life is precious it is one of the greatest gifts that God has given us. "The worth of souls is great in the sight of God." D&C 1810. When faced with abortion one should make it a matter of prayer. Adoption is better than abortion in most cases. I would say that abortion is only a considerable option in the case of, mothers life is threatened, or unborn childs life is threatened in carrying the child to full term, or in the case of rape or incest. Life is a very important thing, God has entrusted us with the power to create life, but has not deligated the power to choose who lives and who doesn't. When aborting a pregnancy one is literally terminating the oppertunity for one of God's children to come to Earth. That is a serious position to consider. If you are faced with abortion, consider life. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Orin
Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is awesome. I hear people complain that it would be hard to live all the commandments and all the rules. But really it is liberating in that they protect us from things in this life that will harm us. I am grateful for my membership in the church. It has help guide my life and make the desicions that have been best for me. I live a normal happy life just like everyone else. I hangout with friends, watch movies, play games do crazy things, get yelled at by my parents. We are no different than everyone else on this planet, except that we know with out a shadow of a doubt that our Heavenly Father is there and that he loves us and that he has revealed to prophets through out all time how we can return to live with him. This knowledge brings us greater peace and happiness in life and is probably why most Mormons you meet are generally happy people and very upbeat. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Orin
The Priesthood is the power and authority or permission from God to act in his name. Say a CEO can't go to a meeting so he calls one of his employees and gives him power to act in the name of the CEO and the companion. God gives man a portion of is power so that they might act by his authority to build up and operate in the ordinances of the Kingdom of God. Such as Baptism, Conferring the gift of the Holy Ghost, Adminstering the Sacrement, Eternal Marriage, Healing the sick. It was through the Priesthood that Christ performed miracles and that after he gave it to his Apostles they performed miracles. After Christ ascended into heaven his Apostles went forth preaching the gospel to the world. They received harsh restistance and pursecution and when the people had killed the Apostles, God removed his authority and Permission to act in his name. For 1800 years there was no one on the Earth who had authority to act in Gods name. In the Spring of 1829 Through the Prophet Joseph Smith God restored his authority back to the earth so that his children might receive the blessings of salvation. All worthy male members have the blessing and opportunity to hold and use the priesthood in serving in the church and blessing the lives of their families and those around them. God has entrusted us with his power and we have a responsibility to honor it and use it to build up God's Kingdom. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Orin
Yes families can be together forever. Our families here on Earth are the source of our greatest love and learning. God loves us so much that through his Priesthood authority he has provided a way for us to be sealed or bound together through the eternities, as we live worthy of this great blessing. For it is a blessing, the greatest blessing that God had promised us. Though some may ask why would I want to be with someone for eternity. I would say imagine the most beautiful, most loving point in your relationship multiply it by infinite and live that way for eternity. That is what God promises us and all he asks is for us to love and to follow him. Show more Show less
