Hi I'm Devin

I'm a reader, writer, movie-maker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Born and raised in good 'ole CA. I'm the first of 4 kids, and that's definitely been an adventure! My siblings are great, and have been an awesome example to me. Life is good! I love going out and experimenting with a variety of different hobbies and arts, from woodworking to wiring, Lego-building to making movies, reading to writing, life is an adventure to be lived, not just to sit back and watch it fly by. It's great to just get up and do something! I'm currently a college student majoring in Communications and an emphasis in Advertising, with a module in Visual Media and a cluster in Spanish.

Why I am a Mormon

I have had the wonderful blessing of being born into the Church of Jesus Christ. However, for a long time (about 19 years) the Church didn't mean much more to me than a good way to spend Sundays with my family. It wasn't until my faith was really put to the test, when I had to make the decision to learn and grow for myself that this amazing Gospel really sunk into my heart. Why am I a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Because I've seen that it isn't just a church. It's God's path to help us get through life, have the incomparable happiness that comes with an eternal family, and return to live with our Father in Heaven once again. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I've found a happiness here that I've never seen anywhere else...a happiness that lasts through thick and thin, through time and all eternity.

How I live my faith

Just as it says in the Bible: Faith without works is dead. So it does no good to attend Church on Sunday, and then not do anything until the next week. I live my faith in each and every aspect of my life. It's my faith in Jesus Christ that pushes me to become a better person, to constantly desire to be like Him. Along with making decisions each and every day to try to become more Christlike, I've devoted these two years of my life to my Father in Heaven and my Brother, Jesus Christ. Each day, we get up and study His doctrine, especially those things that will help people come unto Christ. You've probably seen missionaries before: White shirts, ties, a black nametag, and bicycles. That's us! We've often been asked why we spend 2 years doing this. We don't get paid for it. We don't get any bonuses when we get back. Sometimes, we even get yelled at. But none of that matters when we see the happiness in the eyes of each new member who is washed clean in the waters of baptism. I've never experienced joy as exquisite as that. There's a different glow about them. And I've seen people change their lives around so drastically, I can't help but have a big smile on my face when we pass by their house.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Of course! The Bible was written by Prophets and Apostles of Christ, to testify of Him and of His Divine Mission. Unfortunately, when the writings were compiled, the Priesthood Authority Or permission to act in God's name was not on the earth. Without that authority, many important parts of the Bible were lost. Today, we use the Bible as the word of God, but know that it is incomplete due to many translations without the inspiration from God. But because God loves us, He provided another witness of Jesus Christ - It, too, was written by Prophets and Apostles of old, but of another fold of Christ's people in the Americas. This second witness is known as the Book of Mormon.  Show more Show less
