Hi I'm Jeff

I'm a swimmer, rider, and chemist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Ever heard of Smithfield, VA? No? Look in the Guinness Book of World Records. Yeah that's right, we made the world's largest ham biscuit! ha. That's where I grew up and I love the little town. I am the youngest in the family (but not the 'baby'!); the third of three boys. Science has always peaked my interest and has become my ambition. I am going to a university in Virginia as a Chemistry Major and I love it. I'm a swimmer, a musician, an eagle scout and have competed in a few triathlons. I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with the friends.

Why I am a Mormon

Why not? It only makes sense. I have a hard time believing what people say unless they have a reliable source to back it up. This does make the matter of faith somewhat difficult. Lots of people have said that they know this church is true. Yet what is their source? It always goes back to some sort of feeling or divine intervention. Well I can't prove that that happened to them and if I did what would that mean to me? So I had to try it out. I looked at the doctrine, the people, the witnesses, the Book of Mormon, and my own feelings. I have come to the conclusion that Jesus Christ has restored His church again on the Earth. The scriptures say that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So why wouldn't His church operate the same way now that it did then? It does. This church does. Jesus Christ is at its head and I know that He lives.

How I live my faith

Faith does not mean you are a "Sunday Christian". Following God is an everyday thing. In some small way it should effect every decision that you make. It's the small things that matter. Help someone else in need. Just be a nice person. Too many times I walk around campus and everyone is plugged into their music and it feels cold when no one wants to talk to you or be your friend. I live my faith by going out of my way to lift another, being a friend to someone that has none. That is what True Religion is.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Jeff
Picture this. You've been living in your house for quite some time now. You know the area pretty well including all the streets, the stores, and the restaurants. One day you find a new restaurant. Its not incredibly new but you've shied away from it. Some friends said some bad things about it. But hey, why not? You give it a try. Wow! The food is amazing, the service extraordinary, and the price reasonable. With that in mind, what would you do next? Would you keep it to yourself and be the only one that goes every week? I don't know about you, but I enjoy the things I love, with the people I love. So you begin to tell your friends. Then they tell their friends. That restaurant is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. That is why we proselyte. Yet we've found something better than any restaurant, store, or movie. It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So we share it and with anyone who will listen. If we come aross pushy or annoying it is an accident I promise. We just want to share what we love!    Show more Show less

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Jeff
Well this is somewhat of a trick question. The true name of the Mormon Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The name of an organization often denotes its owner. If you see Jerry's Diner its pretty easy to see that Jerry is the founder of the diner. The same principle applies. For the church of Jesus Christ, He is the founder. Yet he calls righteous people to lead it for now on the Earth. One of those was Joseph Smith. He was a curious boy who wanted to know the truth. He was called to be a prophet. Through the direction of God he was told to restore that church. So to say who founded the Mormon Chruch, I would say that God and Jesus Christ did. To say who brought back that church, the answer would be Joseph Smith.. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Jeff
Looking through the scriptures, its seems there are a few things God really cares about. Two of those would be birth and death. You shouldn't kill. That's pretty obvious. Heavenly Father really cares about how we leave this Earth. However birth is just as important. He wants each of His children to have the best life possible, which includes being born into a family that has love for each other and the new life. God has given us the power to create life (a huge responsibility) and has said that we should only use it between a lawfully wed husband and wife. All other times, places, and people are a no. Another reason the law of chastity was given was to preserve respect for ourselves and others. When a person views pornography they view that person as more of an object than a son or daughter of God. So pornography is also a no. That deals with respect for others but also self respect is diminished when masturbation is practiced. So that is a no. In a nutshell. Love not lust. Show more Show less
