Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised as a Latter-day Saint Mormon. As a child, I loved going to church. It became second nature to me and I always looked forward to going. At church and through the teachings of my parents, I learned that I have a loving Heavenly Father. I learned that His son, Jesus Christ, was my older brother and that he died to atone for my sins. I learned that God has called a prophet to speak for Him here on earth. When I was young this was President Hinckley. Today it is President Monson. I learned to treasure their words and their counsel. As I grew older and talked with my friends, I discovered that not everyone believed as I did. They spoke of our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost as the same person. They spoke of their individual church, but there was no sense of a world wide truth or church. This confused me. How could Heavenly Father and His Son be the same person? Wouldn't Heavenly Father want everyone to have the same understanding of His gospel? One friend spoke of one church practice while another friend spoke of a different practice for the same principle. I began to understand how Joseph Smith must have felt when trying to decide which church to join. In high school, I had the opportunity to attend an early morning seminary class. We studied the Old Testament, the New Testament, Church History, and, of course, the Book of Mormon. Through these early morning studies and a lot of prayer, I found all these scriptures to be true. I just knew that they contained the word of God. I didn't understand and still don't understand why everyone couldn't see the truth of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon and the Bible are a perfect compliment to each other. I like to think of them as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich--a peanut butter sandwich is good, but a peanut butter AND jelly sandwich just tastes so much better! So through the year of me going to church. I learned more and more about the gospel. I came old enough to go on a mission to preach his gospel. So I decided to I was called to the south. I really enjoy my mission but the one thing that never sat write with me is I would ask some one why they believe what they believe and they would say well that was my pastor or minister said. I love the fact that we don’t have you take our word for it we ask you to pray and think about the gospel. Which means every one gets there own personal answer. I am a latter-day saint because it makes cents to me.I know all the teaching are in line with god will.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving a full time mission for the Lord! It is an amazing experience and I love this work and what I have learned so far. trust me going from a cold wet climate to a hot and humid one is not a fun task. I live by heavenly fathers comandments.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Blair
The restoration of the gospel was need because when Jesus was kill along with all of his apostals. The church was lost. So heavenly father decided to put his church back on the earth in the latter-days, by calling as a prophet Joseph Smith. Yes we have always had the Bible but it has gone through many translation. It went from arabic to hebrew to latin to english. Speak about lost in translation. We are given the book of mormon which went from acident egytion to english. The Book of Mormon helps us understand the Bible. And the other way around. Teaching the same thing but in 2 different ways.  Show more Show less
