Hi I'm Farris

and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am 36 years old, married for ten years, and have four kids. I enjoy playing all sports especially basketball and ultimate frisbee. I'd much rather be playing a sport verses watching them (although I do enjoy watching college football and basketball). I have recently started running again and am training to run a 10K with a goal to run it under forty minutes (I still have a long way to go, but this is the goal). I also enjoy reading, gardening, and spending time with my family. I have a Master's Degree in psychology and am a certified school counselor. To start my professional career, I had the priveledge of working as a high school counselor on the Navajo Reservation for four years. Then four years ago, I changed my focus somewhat and am now working as an advisor at a university.

Why I am a Mormon

I know there are many good people from many different churches who are doing great things. I have a lot of respect for the churches out there who are sincerelly trying to do good and combat evil in all its forms. I am a Mormon because The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is also trying to save families, combat evil, and help the people of this world. But more importantly to me, I am a Mormon because I have sincerely asked my Father in Heaven if Joseph Smith is a prophet, if the Book of Mormon really is another Testament of Jesus Christ, and if President Monson is trully the Lord's prophet today. I believe that through the Holy Ghost I have received answers to these prayers and because of this can say that I do Know the Book Of Mormon is what it claims to be, that Joseph Smith is a prophet who restored Christ's Church, and that Thomas Monson is the Lord's prophet today. I also believe that through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we have a fullness of His gospel. Among this is the opportunity to be sealed to my wife and children forever as an eternal family. This same blessing is also available to my deceased ancestors if they choose to accept it.

How I live my faith

For the last 1.5 years I have been involved with Cub Scouts as the Assistant Bear Den Leader. This is a lot of fun and full of laughs. I enjoy working with these youth. I also have the opportunity to visit three wonderful families at least on a monthly basis. During each visit I generally share a gospel message, check on their welfare, and if applicable, report on any needs the family may have to our local church leaders. I hope I live my life in such a way that my kids, my neighbors, my family, and the people I work with, could say that this man is a good and honorable person and someone who is not a hypocrite.
