Why I am a Mormon

I was baptised when I was just 14 years old living in rural Maine.I was not a stranger to religion as my mom growing up impressed upon me how important it was to believe in God & attend church & would dutifully take my siblings & me to summer bible camp, different Sunday services at different denominations to find out what they taught. But the Mormon church had missionaries that came knocking at our door( I'm sure by a mormon neighbor my mom became friends with that winter). One thing going for this church though that stood out to me was that Donny Osmond was a member & he was in all the latest teen mags.I thought I would have a definite edge of meeting him if I attended, so I agreed to go. Now I never did meet Donny but I learned about another teen boy named Joseph Smith who at my age had also wondered which church to join,& through his study of the scriptures sought wisdom to know which church was the right one & retreated to the woods to pray & to ask God, never doubting & he was visited by two heavenly beings, God the Father & his son Jesus Christ who told him to join none. This uneducated young man went on to restore the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, & once again have the priesthood authority to act in Gods name here upon the earth. He translated (with the gift of the Holy Ghost) the Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ. I knew upon hearing it that I must also retreat to the woods & ask if this young man was truly a prophet of God who had seen what he saw & if the Book of Mormon was real,& that I could know this myself through the gift of the Holy Spirit. I received my answer as a 14 year old girl that the gospel was true & the Book of Mormon was inspired of God.I had no doubt in my mind about his authority & where it came from.My faith has never wavered since.I cannot deny what I felt.Jesus Christ is the head of our church. We have a living prophet today that guides us.I'm a daughter of God with an eternal purpose.Miracles happen everyday

How I live my faith

I try to set an example in my life everyday by the way I speak, dress, interact with others.I remember the Savior & the example he has set for me & try to emulate him. I start my day with prayer & I always try to have a smile & a kind word for others. I try to reserve judgment & show compassion & understanding to those around me. I believe that each person who crosses our path each day is for a reason,& that we can make a difference for good! I am not ashamed to tell others what I believe or my love for my Father in Heaven & for our Savior Jesus Christ. I like others to know as well that they are a beloved daughter or son of God. Example & Christlike love for our fellowman & for all living creatures is how I best live my faith. I enjoy teaching all ages and have had the opportunity to serve in many volunteer roles in my church called callings, from teaching the children, to young women, to the adult ladies, to helping organize activities & classes & have developed a great love for the women that I have had the privilege of serving or interacting with. One time as a teacher in the ladies program, I felt inspired to have them share experiences of times they have had trials & how they endured it well with faith, with prayers answered. I collected them all & edited them & compiled them into a book so we could all see & recognize each others strengths.I was so humbled & inspired by how this beautiful book came out & treasure it to this day. I have made many wonderful friendships with other ladies who I've had the opportunity to visit every month & who come to visit me. My children have grown up with wonderful inspired, lessons from the scriptures, inspired counsel from our leaders, beautiful music & many faith building activities, like trips to the temple, genealogy work, priesthood blessings.I am so thankful that other people have used their talents to bless my family through answering calls to serve in our local church area. Truly we are in this together.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Sandee Adragna
The founder and the first Prophet of this church. An important figure also in American Religious history. He was an amazing individual who had a vision when he was 14 years old of God the father and his son Jesus Christ. He was persecuted and martyred for his beliefs but today the gospel he restored to earth and started in Fayette, New York with just a few members to now 11 million members worldwide. What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Sandee Adragna
A testimony is a spiritual witness given by the Holy Ghost. The foundation of a testimony is the knowledge that Heavenly Father lives and loves His children; that Jesus Christ lives, that He is the Son of God, and that He carried out the infinite Atonement; that Joseph Smith is the prophet of God who was called to restore the gospel; that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Savior's true Church on the earth; and that the Church is led by a living prophet today. With this foundation, a testimony grows to include all principles of the gospel. I have a strong testimony of all these things to be true and have bore my personal witness many times and am so grateful to have a testimony. Show more Show less
