Hi I'm Spence

I'm an avid volleyball player, runner, and learner. I'm a Mormon, and I love it.

About Me

I love to run. The thrill of pushing my body to the limit, especially outside, is incredible. I play volleyball as often as I can. I am in college, taking a pretty heavy load, and working 40 minutes away at a business analytics company. I serve a lot in the church, presiding over the spiritual and physical needs of about 40 other students. I handle the stress by exercising, praying and studying scripture before delving into my secular studies. I am majoring in business management right now, but am thinking of taking the medical school route afterwards. Like most students, I don't really know what the future holds... I am excited for the future, however, and trust that as I live right and move forward with my best judgments, everything will work out for the best!

Why I am a Mormon

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most incredible part of my life, and makes up the core of who I am. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I want to be like Him more than anything else in the world. He set such a remarkable example for us to follow. He never buckled under the pressures around Him to sin or participate in things not praiseworthy. Not once did He do something unbecoming a Son of God just to fit in or get glory. He constantly looked outside of Himself to serve and bless the lives of others. This is tough to do in our day, but I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the vehicle for our perfection. It provides the necessary priesthood and covenants to give us power to become like Christ. I know that Jesus Christ is leading this Church, and as such, the fullness of His gospel is here. I love studying other religions, and respect them greatly. I realize that God has inspired many men to teach principles of truth, and I have much to learn from the religions of the world. But I do know that the fullness of the truth on the earth is contained within Christ's Church, and I love being a part of it!

How I live my faith

Currently, I serve as the president of a group of about 40 male students. I watch over them with the help of two counselors, making sure their spiritual and physical needs are being met. This is a band of men that provide spiritual and emotional support not only for each other, but also for the other 80 women within our congregation. At least monthly, each of us men visits every member of the congregation, teaching lessons, bringing cookies, and helping however possible. It's an amazing experience to watch these students, swamped with the stresses of college, get out of themselves and serve people they probably have never met. There is so much love felt, and it's very unifying. As the president, I teach doctrines of the Church, organize service, attend meetings, speak to the congregation, and do anything else I can to help. I love the responsibilities and opportunities to do the Lord's work!
