Hi I'm James

I was born in Australia but grew up in the United States. I'm married and have 5 kids. I'm a doctor and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Canberra, ACT, Australia. My dad was a convert to the LDS a couple years before I was born, so was my mom, but she was living in California. She moved to Australia after they got married. I am the oldest of their 8 kids and when I was 10, we moved to Utah to live next door to my grandparents who were sick. I did my schooling in Utah. After High School, I went on my LDS mission for 2 years in Southwest England and Southern Wales. It was an incredible experience and I love and miss the people there. After my mission I went to BYU and got married & sealed in the LDS Bountiful Temple to my great wife and earned a Bachelors Degree -- then to the University of Utah and earned a dual degree of MD and MPH (Masters degree in Public Health). I did more training in Tampa Florida, where we chose to stay, and I work full time as an Emergency Room doctor. We have 5 great children who make sure our lives stay pretty busy. I also enjoy serving in my church callings. I currently work with the Young Men in my ward and it's great! During high school I enjoyed Hot Air Ballooning with a close friend and his family on a very regular basis. I love to SCUBA dive and wake board. I also love snow skiing but have not lived by the snow for quite a few years now. I used to be decent at basketball also, but now I sadly rarely play. During college I worked for Microsoft doing tech support and I discovered that I also really enjoy messing around with computers too.

Why I am a Mormon

I do a crummy job of it a lot of the time, but I try to follow the example of Jesus Christ. I choose to go to church each week (when I'm not working) because I want to and I try each day to be a better person and to improve myself and to be a good husband and father and friend to others. I know that Jesus Christ died for my sins and transgressions and I know he was resurrected and that each of us will be resurrected after this mortal life. I know, really know, that families can be truly together again after this life. Our existence doesn't end with a burial in a cemetery, I know that and feel it very strongly. My wife and I have had to bury a son, a very difficult experience, and a year later we buried my mother, who was not old and died unexpectedly, next to my son. I have no doubt that I will be able to see them sometime again after this life. I'm a Mormon, member of The Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints, because I know the priesthood authority has been brought back to earth from Jesus Christ and that this is His true doctrine and it helps me to be a better person. I know this church has more to add to all people worldwide, Christian or not. There is additional truth and peace that comes to my life and my family.

How I live my faith

As those that know me well will tell you, I'm far from perfect, but I try to be a good person. I have great neighbors and try to be friendly and we all enjoy helping each other out in the cul-de-sac when needed. I enjoy teaching and working with the youth in my local church unit. They are a lot of fun to work with and be around.
