Hi I'm VW
I grow kids and flowers. I'm a Mormon.
I am a stay at home mother of four. I love reading, eating cookie dough, kissing my children after they're asleep each night, and spreading composted manure on my flower beds with the help of my kind husband. I started a gardening blog in 2008, and writing a weekly post helps me feel like I'm still using my Horticulture degree. Garden blogging got me into photography, which is a great new adventure.
I was born into a Mormon family, but knew as a teenager that I needed my own witness of Christ's gospel and my family's church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I spent a lot of time studying the gospel of Jesus Christ and church doctrines in the scriptures and at church. Then I prayed to ask my Heavenly Father if what I was studying was true. It took many prayers before I received my answer - a buoyant happiness in my heart that was the Holy Spirit's way of telling me that these things are true. As I continue to study and try to live Christ's gospel, I feel His love for me. I am filled with joy as I teach my children of Jesus and His plan for us.
I live my faith by following Jesus Christ, and I do that most fully in my role of mother. Jesus set aside important responsibilities and great capacity as the Creator of heaven and earth to come to a humble home on earth and serve us. I have followed His example and set aside other pursuits to serve and teach my family. Jesus washed the dirty, smelly feet of His disciples, so I follow Him as I change diapers, wipe noses, and clean up spilled cereal. Jesus fed thousands in a miraculous way. Though my cooking is no miracle, I have served thousands of meals to my family. Jesus taught disciples to pray, and I have the joy of guiding my children in their first prayers. Jesus witnessed in word and deed of Heavenly Father's love. As a mother, I have the great joy and responsibility of standing as the first witness of God's love to my children. Before they are born and throughout their lives, I encircle them in selfless love and thereby lay the foundation that will enable them to believe, recognize and share God's love. As I make sacrifices to fulfill these important responsibilities, the Lord gives me opportunities to develop and share my talents in other ways. Writing a gardening blog and designing flower gardens for the temple allow me to put my horticulture degree to work. Teaching Sunday School offers me the opportunity to increase and share my understanding of Christ's gospel while developing better teaching skills. Truly God is generous to those who serve Him.
