Hi I'm Cristian

I am from Peru! I'm a PhD mechanical engineering student! I love to dance! I live in Utah and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I was born and raised in Peru. I come from a Catholic family from my mom's side and Jehova's Witness from my dad's. Despite the religious variety in my youth, I attended Catholic schools throughout my elementary and middle school years. Later, my family moved to the United States where I met the Mormon church for the first time in Utah. Shortly after, I was baptized while in the 9th grade. After high school, I enrolled in college where I indulged myself into the study of diverse sciences. I pursued a Mechanical Engineering degree and on the side became heavily engaged in Latin dancing to compensate for the laborious and strenuous tasks from engineering school. While I was in graduate school, it finally hit me that I really wanted to serve God by going on a mission! I put my "secular pursuits" into a 2-year cessation and served a full-time mission in Las Vegas, Nevada... and I loved it! Now I am back in college studying mechanical engineering.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because some friends invited me to read the Book of Mormon and ask God if the book is true. I prayed about it and did not receive an answer at first, but did not relinquish my efforts though they seemed futile. I kept reading more from the Book of Mormon, I kept attending church, and I kept a journal where I would jot down my spiritual impressions. Eventually, I came to the point to where I urgently desired to know, so I fasted and prayed about it. That night, just before I was about to give up, I received my answer! The best thing about this whole story is that those same reassuring feelings I received that night are repeated frequently as I strive to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ John 717.

How I live my faith

I wake up and read from the scriptures (Bible, Book of Mormon, Modern day prophets) and ponder the message therein. As I go through my day, I try to keep an eye single to the glory of God in my secular pursuits. I find that this mentality or "remembrance of the Savior throughout the day" keeps me focused on what matters most. At night, I write in my journal and think about my activities of the day. I find this is a good way to wrap up and be thankful for a day full of experiences and opportunities and look forward to a better day tomorrow!

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

To me, faith is a combination of obedience and hope. We can increase our faith in Jesus Christ by increasing either of these two, or both! Obedience to the teachings (Gospel) of Jesus Christ shows the magnitude of our faith (James 2:17-18). Of course it is not easy! This is where hope comes in. Theoretically, if we fully understood what Heaven (Celestial Kingdom) was like, then we would easily be 100% obedient to His Gospel because we would know It is worth the honest toil. If we continually strive to be more obedient and increase our hope, then our faith in Jesus Christ will increase and undergird beyond our comprehension and we will be happier! Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Yes! This is the declaration we urgently seek to shower the world with everyday. Great news, isn't it? It also makes sense. God loved His children back then as much as He loves us now. We need His guidance from prophets today (if not more) than people needed it back then. We do have a living prophet today. You can pray and ask your Father in Heaven if this is true. He will answer; in His own time and His own way, but He will answer. Show more Show less
