Hi I'm Steve

I'm a genealogist enthusiast, amateur painter and photographer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born into an inactive LDS family, the oldest of three siblings. Our parents never took us to church meetings or activities. I went to church meetings to play on the athletic teams the church organized. I was baptized just before I turned 10 when the Primary realized I hadn't been baptized at 8. I didn't start considering what the Church taught until my senior year of high school. I was in the concert choir of my high school and as the tradition at the time we sang and spoke in Sacrament meetings, sometimes more than one on a Sunday. After high school it was either Viet Nam or a mission; I chose a mission which sent me to Kentucky and Tennessee. I gained a testimony serving my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I am the only active Mormon in my birth family. It has been a challenge throughout my life. At times I was inactive, but my faith never waivered. The Gospel has answered my questions, but more than answers I have been blessed with a peace which has sustained me trough many trials including years of clinical depression and a stroke in 2008. The Gospel offers a perspective on mortality that transcends most philosophies of life and teaches we have a concerned loving Parent to Whom we pray. Christ is our Savior and advocate with our Father. From an unfathomable love and devotion to do the will of our Father, He suffered that we could pass beyond the demands of pure justice. He loosed the bands of death that we all will live for eternity with tangible bodies like we have now.

How I live my faith

The teachings of the Gospel are the paths that lead to a dimension of life in which I believe that we are all literally brothers and sisters. Out of that paradigm is a way of seeing others in a more compassionate, forgiving and eternal perspective. Knowing that Christ offers His Atonement to all helps me to interact with others in a more loving way. I have felt the love of our Savior in my life many times, and it that love that passes through me to others. I believe we are here for a very short, intense time to be tried and that how we respond to trials can defeat us or build us. We cannot withstand all that life may throw at us by ourselves we need the Lord's help to succeed.
