Hi I'm Reece Johnson

I grew up in British Columbia, I am a landscaper, and I'm a Mormon. I am serving in the Canada Toronto Mission

About Me

My name is Reece and I am a Mormon, I am twenty six years old and was born a member. I enjoy being a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, it has really blessed my life. I am currently serving a mission in Ontario Canada, I worked as a landscaper for seven years but I want to go to school and would like to work as a child councilor/psychologist. I enjoy listening to music and watching all sorts of movies, I have been drumming for eight years and love to play floor hockey, I am a great vocal impressionist. I absolutely love attending church activities and Sunday meetings and spending time with family and friends. The temple is the most important place to me in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because I know that there is a god and that we did in fact choose to follow heavenly fathers plan. I know that god does and will bless his children according to our obedience, Joseph Smith was and is a true prophet who restored the true and everlasting gospel. I also know that Thomas S. Monson and the other general authorities and Auxiliaries, have been called by god to lead and guide us in these latter days, Thomas S. Monson is the true and living prophet. I am sure I speak for many if not all Latter Day Saints Mormons when I say that we indeed thank thee oh god for a prophet. I love the gospel, it has really effected my life in such a good way, I know it is true and that this is the way in which we can return to live with our heavenly father. The Gospel to me is more than just going to church, it is understanding the doctrine of Christ, and applying the principles I learn from it to my daily life, I strive everyday to become more Christ like, and I know that as I do so I can be a greater effect on those around me, as I strive to show Christ like love and serve those in need, I know that I can bless the lives of others and strengthen my own testimony of the gospel.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to keep the commandments and include personal prayer and scripture study apart of my daily life. As well as attending sacrament meetings on Sunday and other various church activities throughout the week. I love to study the gospel and give talks and prepare lessons to teach. I am constantly seeking opportunities to serve both temporally and through my priesthood duties. I also dilligently seek oportunities for missionary work.

As Latter Day Saints we believe that the family is ordained of god and is an essential key or part of gods eternal plan of happiness and progression in the afterlife, and it is by a temple or celestial marriage that we can and are married for time and eternity. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Reece Johnson
Entry to Mormon temples is based upon worthiness those who are not keeping the commandments are not to enter into the temple, we know that "he doth not dwell in unholy temples neither can filthiness or anything which is unclean be received into the kingdom of God" Alma 7 21 he meaning god, we believe it to be the house of the lord and that the temple provides a place where we can feel his spirit best, and come closer to god. In the temple sacred ordinances are performed that bring us closer to our heavenly father, and prepare us for eternal salvation other ordinances such as baptisms for the dead are performed for those who have not had the chance in this life to receive the gospel to have the same chance in the next life. We know that in the bible many were commanded to build temples, The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints is God's full restored gospel which includes the building of temples. What do Mormons believe happens after we die?

Reece Johnson
It is our belief that when we die we progress into a spirit world where we will await our judgement and resurrection, we will be judged according to the thought and intents of our hearts, as well as our actions. Through the gospel of Jesus Christ, which consists of faith in Jesus Christ and repentance (asking for forgiveness of our sins), being baptized, receiving The Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end (keeping God's Commandments throughout our life), we can return to live with our Heavenly Father. Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Reece Johnson
It is important for us to keep or bodies clean because as the question states we refer to our bodies as temples. We believe this because we believe in receiving the gift of the holy ghost, who is the third member of the godhead. if you read in 1st Corinthians 3: 16 "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? to me that is pretty self explanatory, we know that our bodies are considered temples of god, and we also know that the spirit of god or the holy ghost does not dwell in holy places/temples. So as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we keep our bodies free of piercings tattoos and harmful substances like drugs alcohol smoking etc. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Reece Johnson
Mormons or Latter Day Saints do not worship Joeseph Smith, he was the first prophet of this dispensation, his role was to restore god's full and everlasting gospel. We revere him as a key part of the restoration of god's church as he translated The book Of Mormon. However we do not worship but rather we worship Jesus Christ.  Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Reece Johnson
First of all if you truly desire to know whether what believe or "mormonism" is true, then you need to pray. Praying is the simplest way to communicate with god, it is our direct "phone line" so to speak with our heavenly father and he is always listening. Along with fervent prayer you should read The Book of Mormon and the bible study it ponder the things you read, pray about what you read. Read this scripture found in The Book of Mormon, Moroni 10 4-5 which states "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." another promise from our heavenly father stating that if we ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, we can and will know for ourselves whether it is true. I testify that Jesus Christ is our savior and that this is the true and everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ, and that if you do ask in fervent sincere prayer with real intent you too can know in your heart with an assurance that these things are true. Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Reece Johnson
The bible contains apart of Christ's gospel and doctrine, the restoration is important because it restores the other portion of Christ's doctrines and principles. Ezekiel 37 16 reads "16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions" these two records are both a testimony of Christ's divinity his mortal ministry and resurrection from the grave. Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Reece Johnson
Mormons do not only help Mormons Christ taught to love everyone, his love is not selective or conditional on a basis of a person's faith race or anything. In Matthew 25 40 "40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me" to me this scripture is pretty clear, if we love Christ and wish to serve him, then we should be just as willing to serve anyone that stands in need of help. Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Reece Johnson
We perform baptisms by proxy, because we believe all should have the opportunity to receive the gospel whether it be in this life or the next, and it is by baptism by proxy, that we can allow those that have passed on into the next life to either accept or reject the gospel according to their own agency. What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Reece Johnson
The atonement of Jesus Christ takes place in two locations, one in the garden of Gethsemane and two on the of Golgotha, upon the cross. Christ took upon him all of our sufferings and sins we can find a scripture that tells us this in "Alma 712 12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities." The Atonement is important to us because it allows us to repent of our sins, that we may be forgiven. Isaiah 118 "18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." it is through the atonement and by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel that all mankind can be saved. Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Reece Johnson
Tithing is a commandment of god, the tithing we pay goes to help Meetinghouses and Temple's across the world, as well as many other Church necessities. Christ had the following to say about tithing, 3 Nephi 248,10 "8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
